I've two desktop computers that share my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and earphone jack through a Belkin KVM switch ($60). In a few weeks my new e1705 will arrive and I'll add it to the setup, purging of one of the two desktops from the KVM switch to allow the e1705 to share the said peripherals with the other desktop.

Price-wise, I don't know what a good set goes for...so I'm open to any ideas. Also, the speakers will be used solely with PC's, not with TVs in a home theater arangement. Playing retro and latest game titles as well as watching DVDs and listening to music will be the speakers' primary uses.

    (I) What speakers would you recommend for the above situation?

    Soundcards are as follows:
    (a) desktop, SB Audigy MP3+ w/ 5.1
    (b) laptop e1705, "Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio"

(II) What can you tell me about the "Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio" -- I chose it as a ~$20 option with my e1705?

I posted in another thread that the Logitech X-530 are great 5.1 speakers for the price ($50). I have a X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card in my desktop. Im guessing for the E1705 the integrated audigy means the sound processor is the Audigy chip instead of whatever it was before (probably RealTek chip). It should be better in terms of offloading the music playback to the audio chip instead of having the cpu do the work. The sound quality should be a little better as well. Expect the same as with the SB Audigy in your desktop. A thing to note though is that I dont think the E1705 will have a 5.1 connection. Also dont route sound systems into a KVM switch, it will hurt the sound quality. Might as well just hook the speakers up to your desktops and leave your laptop be. The E1705 has decent built in speakers anyway.

I would check out some speakers made by creative labs. They make very quality speakers that sound great! They have a few different 5.1 systems.

Does your notebook have a Digital output like the Audigy2 series has? If you do, get the Logitech Z-5500 as they have DTS processors too...for the best surround sound ever. The digital sound data gets reprocessed to be even more 3-dimensional.Kilpsch also an excellent choice, as for creative...personally I had a 2.1 set eyars ago on a pentium 2 and it didn't last at all (personal bias).
