I am planning on buying a glossy screen external monitor. I saw the HP monitors in person and I really liked them. Right now I have a SONY XBrite glossy screen monitor and love it. I want something with the same quality or better. I am looking for 24" or bigger and am thinking of spending a max of about ~$350. Anybody have any other recommendations other than HP?

Hmmm. It's going to be difficult. The Sony screens were TN, and I had a large number of the 'handle at the bottom' models of the Sony glossy screens in 17 and 19-inch flavours - but despite being the same tech as all of the glossy monitors you'll come across now, I thought they were quite a bit superior to most glossy TN screens I've come across recently both in terms of image stability (I never used to get the artifacting that's so common on current glossy TN screens when you don't look at them exactly head-on) and the usability of the screen regarding glare (more modern screens tend to be far more mirror-like and prone to glass-like additional glare).

I think honestly the only solution is to go out there and take a look at some.

Thanks Vogelbung. The Sony monitor I have is really excellent. It is a pleasure to work on for long periods of time. I have been using it for like 4.5 years and it is only 17" in size. Even though it is only 17" in size I have kept it since it is so nice but I would like to upgrade. I just don't have too much space to work on things. Can you atleast give to links to some monitors that are glossy screened and are atleast 24" in size? Thanks.

Well - I can obviously have a root around, but it wouldn't be coming from personal experience so I'm not sure if I'd be of any help to you. Unlike many posts on web forums I don't like giving advice if I don't have any experience of it.

Given the limitations of TN at bigger screen sizes and my knowledge that 22 inches is pretty much the largest that you can go with a TN screen before obvious colour shifts become visible even if you're sitting directly in front of the monitor, I bought the (very well reviewed) Dell SP2208WFP last year to see if glossy would be good for home / light use at the office.

I ordered 8 originally I think as they were cheap and I thought I could use them in various utility tasks - one look at the first one out of the box confirmed that it was pretty much the worst I'd feared. Not a patch on the Sony if we're talking a usable image, although colours - looking directly at the monitor with no head movement whatsoever - are nice. Haven't used them since, and those I haven't given away are still sitting in the storeroom.
