I am a college student. My desk is next to my bed and I like to do homework on my bed with my laptop next to me on my desk. The problem is, my bed is higher than my desk, which makes it difficult to reach my laptop from my bed. To make it more comfortable, I need to raise my notebook (Dell XPS M1530) and external mouse up about 1 foot from my desk. I want to make sure that what ever raises both the notebook and mouse up is sturdy to prevent my notebook from falling. Any suggestions?

By the way, I have searched the forums, but I came up short (no pun intended)

Well, I currently have two large boxes full of textbooks acting as a temporary nightstand. I just put one more layer of textbooks on top of it to give it a smooth area for my laptop. For an entire foot up, I would recommend a similar strategy - just piling on textbooks isn't too stable - but put them inside a cardboard box and it should be fairly sturdy.

Or you can use a milk crate, and screw a piece of wood into the top of it.
Than use thin strips of wood to create a "handrail" around the base, so your laptop cannot slide off.

you could use a plastic storage bin. I've used those for temporary tables before. Just make sure you get one with a flat lid.

3 or 4 engineering textbooks should do the trick.

I have one of those lapdesk things that resemble a "tv tray" that may work for you. Then you can just put the laptop and mouse on top of it and work in bed.

Get some back support if you can, (or lay down and do it) because my bed acts like my computer chair in my room and its so bad for your back to be hunched over all the time.
