Hi all! I just got a call from Dell that my laptop is arriving tomorrow! I need to ask you guys about two accessories, but first here are things I thought you might need to know:

    Laptop: Dell XPS M1530
    15.4",
9-cell extended battery (about 2 in. depth from back I heard?)

These are the accessories that I need advice on:

    1) I need an inexpensive but still decent security cable for the Dell XPS M1530. I know it will not protect me greatly but at least it will thwart thieves for the 5-10 min that I go to take a shower in my dorm at college (I have LoJack but just for added confidence/security, I'd like a cheap but working security lock -- Belkin? )

    2) I just bought a Wenger SwissGear Synergy backpack for my Dell XPS M1530 (hope the Dell fits into the laptop compartment with the 9-cell battery). I think I should buy a laptop sleeve to protect it from scratches. What is a good brand..once again, cheap but good.

My budget for BOTH of the above items combined is about $40 (if I have to, I can go a little higher but lower the better). The security cable about $20 or less? And the sleeve $15 or less? Or whatever you guys think!

    Thank you!

P.S. I am not sure about the Sleeve because my Dell is supposed to come with that default Dell XPS Laptop Case that all ship with, and from pictures it doesn't look like it would protect that well but what do you guys think? I pretty much just need it for scratch protection as it will be inside the SwissGear Synergy and has good protection in there.

Concerning the sleeve, if you just need scratch protection, then the Case that ships with the laptop will do just fine.

If you want something more - weather and or shock proof, then you should spend more than $15.

Regarding the lock: Why not a Kensington lock?

    For $23.60 at amazon.com

or another one for $22.60 (also from amazon).

The stock sleeve works but it is very bulky.

The stock sleeve should be just fine, but if you don't like it then you could just get a cheap one online. if you just want scratch protection then go with the cheapest, if you want more then read reviews.

as for the lock. Blekin is good and the one xnbr suggested is fine too. i used to use a targus lock

that one ^^. but since i got a desktop i figured i didn't need it anymore. worked fine.
