Hey guys, I need to buy some wireless gaming mouse for my brother-in-law. We just bought him Sager np7110 and he's probably gonna play a bit on this thing. He's off to college so wireless makes the most sense since he can take it out in class and don't worry about cables runing on the desk.
We looked at Razer Orochi but it's just too expensive.
Can you guys give some ideas on some good mices below $50 that would not have connection problems and work well in games.

If you look hard enough, you should be able to find a microsoft x8 for around 50. I just sold mine on ebay for 50 and bought a cyborg rat 7 to replace it.
It's a good mouse and I never had any problems with the wireless aspect of it.

Have you considered a wired mouse?

I don't remember the last time I had to use my mouse from across the room. Maybe that's just me.

I'd rather he have a wireless mouse, it's just easier and less clutter on the table. I just don't know which ones are good for gaming, which ones won't lag in an fps game.

There's not a huge pool of gaming-grade wireless mice available. Off the top of my head, there's the Razer Mamba, Logitech G700 and G7, Microsoft Sidewinder X8 and the upcoming R.A.T. 9. I personally use the Mamba and highly recommend it. It's not the most portable with its charging dock/receiver unit, but if the mouse doesn't travel too much, it should be fine.

Someone just brought this up to me. I'm using a Logitech MX518.

Amazon.com: Logitech MX 518 High Performance Optical Gaming Mouse (Metal): Electronics

I first swore by Intellimouse Explorers. Then the design changed to something much less comfortable and more casual. I switched to Logitech MX518s after reading reviews. Granted, I had one or two break, but this has been over the course of 4 or so years. The cord on it with my laptop in portable settings does not bother me much. However, if there is a viable option similar to the MX518 in terms of feel and function, I'd switch.

I just want something with the ergonomic feel, 5 buttons, a sectioned scroll wheel. The G700 almost looks good, but the way the left side goes out on the bottom looks awkward.

I have this mouse and I can say that it's good enough for some gaming. Surely, it's smaller than normal mice because it's a notebook mouse but it makes it quite portable. And it's easy to grip because of the rubberized side grips, so it doesn't feel all too uncomfortable. No, it doesn't feel uncomfortable at all.

There really aren't too many *gaming* wireless mice for under $50. You can certainly get a wireless mouse and use it for light gaming purposes, which is what I think you are alluding to.

In which case, I would recommend the Logitech M505 or the Logitech Anywhere MX. Either one would be great.

If you really want the top-of-the-line gaming-grade wireless mouse, then look into the Logitech G700. It is superior to the Razer Orochi in every single way, and a fantastic gaming mouse.

Yeah, I think strictly gaming mouse under $50 was a bit too much. I ended up grabbing Logitech m505 and I gotta say it's pretty good and should be ok for some light gaming.

Actually I bought AnywhereMX for my wifey and it's great mouse, much better in feel than m505 and side buttons are a big plus. But this mouse goes for around $100 in Canada and the cheapest I saw it was for $67 recently on sale. And the m505 I got yesterday for $38, so prce difference is significant and we're buying this as a present along with few games, mouse pad and headset.
