I have a Lenovo Yoga 9i on order. I have a few USB C cables but other than that no accessories to take advantage of the new technology. Is there an external HD that would improve my speeds over my current USB 3 external hard drives.

I was thinking of a hub like this to complement the computer. Is there a better option or something else I should get to make the new computer a better platform?

I just realized the hub I listed is designed specifically for the Macbook Pro and the connectors are lined up to plug into both the Macbook Pro TB slots so might not work with a Yoga 9i. Any suggestions on best hub for a TB4 on a Yoga 9i?

Thunderbolt 4 has no performance improvements over Thunderbolt 3. In order to take full advantage of the high-speed data interconnect, you would need a proper hub (most good ones cost $200-$300), drive enclosure ($150 upwards), and an NVMe SSD. Unless you have a specific need for this, stick with the current peripherals you have.

How about a not proper hub. I will need a hub to get to HDMI or plug in card readers, USB-A. Would something like this work?

If you're OK with HDMI 1.4 support (maximum 4K at 30 Hz), then that hub will work.

I don't plan on gaming more likely watching a movie from my laptop in my RV, is there or photo editing on a larger screen. Is there a hub that would be better for that purpose?

Let me rephrase that question. Please educate me or send me a link to where I can educate myself on how you determine one hub will only get me 30hz, or how the performance will vary from one hub to another.

You need an HDMI 2.0 port to get 4K60.
