First off. Hello all! I'm due to receive my dell xps 15 laptop next week and I wanted a headset w/mic for it. Few things:-

    Budget : $100-$150us

Type : Wireless. No wired sorry lol

Durability: Must be great! I don't have option of shipping back(from the caribbean) and my options ordering is limited. Amazon. So basically something built sturdy....

Quality and comfort : I prefer headphones that cover my ears(sensitive ears :S) Quality wise, well mic doesn't have to be great. I'm told my caribbean accent makes up for my mic quality :p

Time frame: Waiting for monday, US Labour day deals I guess before I purchase.

One more thing, also looking for a good 2.5 self powered enclosure for a 320gb hd I got lying around (from my dead gateway)

The only two wireless headsets I can think of are the Logitech G930, or the Astro MixAmp 5.8. So yeah... if wireless is required, you're pretty much stuck with the Logitech G930.

As for a 2.5" USB enclosure... it doesn't really matter. They are a commodity. Just about every company makes one, they all cost around $10 - $20 USD, and they all perform the same. I personally like Vantec branded enclosures, but it honestly doesn't matter who or where you buy one from.

I personally do not like the G930 I have a brand new one that I have only used for one day and now its locked in my file cabinet.

Fake 7.1 surround was a issue and the super poor quality microphone defeats the purpose of a headset IMO.

This is 2011 and this device only has a maximum bitrate of 16000hz for the mic the last time 16000hz was in use was 1964 with the cassette tape.

Get some good headphones and use an external mic is what I always say, however since you put wireless as a requirement that would not work so well for you as most wireless mics are like $100 and you would have to run a separate system just for the mic (transmitter, reciever, etc)

G930 will get the job done if you just need it for voip or gaming voip but it wont excel at it and I just dont feel its worth what it cost and other headsets in that range do better in the mic category (and pretty much all of them that cost less as well)

They say its the wireless bandwidth that forced them to restrict the mic quality to what it is, so the idea you need wireless is partial enemy in itself. It's pretty much always bee wires>wireless for quality no matter what electronics device your looking at and it requires spending a certain amount of money extra to get the same quality as with wires.

    I agree with Vicious.

You're screwing yourself by restricting your purchases to wireless-only headsets.

If you dont need a wireless mic you can atleast get wireless headphones and just use a desktop stand mic.

I quite like my bluetooth wireless headphones for office use I move around while working and listen to music.

Small, light, comfortable. I wouldnt wear my G930 in the office people would be laughing at me behind the corners :D

    Plantronics Pulsar 590

Good for music out and about. I would not use them at home as a substitute for my high end headphones.

Get some good real headphones then, if its that noisy you dont need a mic.

If you have issues with cables, make a fail safe coupling so the cable disconnects when pulled.

If you are lookin for wired it is a whole different ball of wax. I had the logitech G35 (the corded G930). I thought they were great for what they were. I actualy liked their Dolby headphone surround effects a lot. It works much better than any other surround headphone algorithm I tried (and I tried almost all of em). Now I use wired ATH-AD700s, I guess I read too many posts by ViciousX. Wireless isn't bad, wired is just better. IF you need wireless get wireless, you can always get a wired set later if you don't like the way the wireless works.

Audio Technica ATH-A700s are the hotness for budget-sensitive audiophiles. Incredible sound quality, solid construction, and can be used without a headphone amp. The Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Sennheiser HD555 are also very highly-regarded in this price range.

It's a good thing that those headphones are designed for Diablo 3, and are licensed by Blizzard. Because those logos and licensing really help improve the sound quality.

After reading all comments posted and consulting a buddy of mines. I've decided to update my preferences and go with a wired solution. One thing remains same is my budget, $100-150US my budget simply because I'm from the caribbean and gonna have to pay shipping $$ and duties/taxes when it lands in my country.

Questions... Analog vs USB? I'll be using this headset on my laptop (waiting for that to arrive soon!!) Dell XPS 15 L502x. Headset with mic yes, sorry vicious I can't handle a seperate mic lol.

A buddy told me about these Amazon.com: Corsair CA-HS1ANA Gaming Audio Series HS1 Analog Gaming Headset: Electronics

    Inputs please :)

Yes, Corsair makes some great headphones for the price you pay. Every single review of Corsair's headphones say that you get way more sound quality than the price you pay. Excellent buy.

I would recommend getting the Corsair HS-1 (USB connection, and not the HS-1A (analog connections). The USB-based HS-1 will perform virtual surround processing, and basically take a 5.1 or 7.1 surround signal and downmix that into the stereo headphone drivers to emulate surround sound. The analog HS-1A headphones are identical to the USB version, except without the surround processing capabilities.

Wireless is da future, we want wireless ))

Are there any other options? I am interested in buying one myself. Dont need any super sound, just skyping with friends / light gaming etc. G930 is my only choice?

Or you can go with the new PS3 one that works with PS3 and computer. Was on sale for preoder a while back on Amazon for $6x.xx, back up to $9x.xx next cheapest now overstock.com for $7x.xx. No reviews yet but 7.1, works both PS3 and comp which is a plus (g930 only pc), wireless, 7 hours (claimed) on charge.

Sorry for the off-topic request, but if anyone has a spare Logitech 50% coupon they could spare for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Been waiting to pick up the G930 myself since I recently ran over my Etymotic ER-4P with my chair and wanted to get rid of the wires myself. I move around at my desk a lot and the wires always pop out and are too short :(

That said, from everything I've read, there are few wireless options really and the G930 seems to get recommended the most. Probably due to Logitech being so big. I should really get my Etymotic's repaired/upgraded though.

Are those Pro 900s or HFI 2400s on the wall? I just got a pair of DJ1s (cheaper reshelled HFI 580s) and I'm loving the Ultrasone sound.

Why do you need wireless? It's a bigger hassle, it's more expensive, and it has worse performance. What is the point?

Sure wireless may be the future but as long as latency exists in wireless devices, the majority of them stay on my sh**list. I come from a First-Person-Shooter gaming environment, and the latency drives me up the wall. Manufacturers' are getting better with that problem, but I'll stick to wired for now.

    HFI 2400's really like them.

Best bass ever for open headphons
Just the right about of open air but still sounds more closed
    Looks great
    Removable Cable
    Folds up for travel

The only thing I can say "bad" about them is that they do not pick up the highs as well as my AT's and they are not as comfortable.

i think vicious, or someone from this forum, recommended the Audio-Technica ATH-M50's to me a few months ago. i was able to find a pair locally, so i decided to check them out. after a few months of ownership, i'd confidently recommend them to anybody. the soundstage, and sound quality, are amazing. i got the straight cord version and the cord itself is super long. i'm not sure if that'll help or hurt u, but i thought it might be a plus cuz u said u had to move around a bit.

@ OP: what do u need an external mic for? your laptop should have a built in mic that will be more than enough for some gaming. that's the setup i'm currently using. laptop's mic + klipsch promedia 2.1 or my M50's.

I'll second the ATH-M50's. They are quite amazing and are relatively comfortable. I wear mine probably 6 hours a day and always have them on when I walk around campus. They let in a bit of noise since they aren't noise cancelling but for the most part, they block out people's voices. That was my biggest problem since listening to people sounds like nails on a chalkboard sometimes and I need isolation to get stuff done. Though I'm probably one of the few people that studies while listening to Drum n Bass, Metal, Trance and Rock.
