I currently own an MX1000 but I really don't like the logitech drivers. I have to use uberoptions and am annoyed by a strange glitch that it has. It also seems to crash sometimes for no reason. It doesn't happen often though. Middle click is hard to press without accidentally side scrolling. Its batteries are also starting to wear out. I used to get 9 days and now I'm down to about 3.

So with that it mind, before I get a new laptop, I'm on the lookout for a new mouse. Here's a list of what I'm looking for:

    1. Good drivers. I have used Microsoft's Mouseware drivers in the past and they have been very solid for example.

    2. Comfortable. It's not a huge demand but I should be able to rest my hand on it and use it without being annoyed.

    3. Many buttons. I use all 12 buttons on my MX1000 and I use them a lot. It should also allow application specific button commands as both Microsoft Mouseware and Logitech's Setpoint (with uberoptions) do.

    4. It's better if it's wireless but I would be willing to go wired again for the right mouse.

    5. Money isn't important but it should probably be under $200.

I know I'm really picky when it comes to mice. All of the mice I've seen so far don't meet my expectations. (I should really start a company and make my own perfect mouse).

I don't like the VX or MX revolutions because they're very similiar to the MX1000 with less buttons although I did note that the middle button is easier to click since it's wider.

I was looking at the Microsoft Wireless Mouse 8000 but it doesn't look comfortable (I could be wrong) or have very many buttons. Does anyone have experience with it?

So that's what I'm looking for. I kind of doubt I'll find it since I've been looking long and hard.

If anyone has ANY suggestions for me on good mice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

The microsoft wireless 3000 is a little small. It doesn't look like it would fit my hand very well. It's also lacking buttons.

By the way I'm not seeking a portable laptop mouse. I'm seeking a full desktop creature that will never leave the desk. Bigger is generally better in my situation. I find my MX1000 a little small but around the right size.

I just bought the mx revolution, and I gotta say: I love this mouse. So comfortable. I've only had it for a few hours so I can't tell you about the drivers? I can't even seem to find drivers for this mouse on logitech's sitel.

For that mouse glueeater, you'll need the logtech setpoint drivers. It's in version 3.30 right now, I'm running them. The logitech drivers as I said in my post though, really suck.

The logitech drivers aren't great, but they do work.

The MX Revolution is the best mo use on the market right now IMO, shame its not bluetooth.

RE: Drivers - I've been using X Mouse Button Control instead of Logitech's Set Point software. It's free (they accept donations), works like a charm, easily lets you remap your buttons, fairly small memory footprint. I discovered these from having an Evoluent Vertical Mouse, but they work pretty much with anything with 4-5 buttons.

As for the mouse -- it's a shame you don't like the VX/MX Revs because they have the most buttons. If you don't like them then G5 or G7 would be my choice.

Set Point's up to version 4.0 (released 6/5) - still crappy though ;)
