Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new keyboard since my $5 Logitech special is starting to get on my nerves after about 1 1/2 years. I want something quiet to type on and useful for gaming. I don't need anything fancy so I don't need to spend a ton.

    Any suggestions?

Hell yeah! I currently use a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard. Quite comfortable to type on, and it's pretty quiet as well. It's a nice compromise between a solid gaming keyboard and a productivity keyboard. The only thing missing is a high price tag; when I bought mine, they were going for $35.00 but they can now be had for just north of a Mr. Jackson.

Same keyboard, OEM version (for $13.50!!!)

I second this, this been my favorite keyboard for some time, from 2005, even bough a 2nd for last years desktop upgrade. But im not sure how is it for gaming, i always used a nostromo n52, was just for typing. Recently i been upgrading keyboard mostly for illuminated backlit, but if you dont want to spend that much thats a good option.

If you would like to spend a little more there is also the Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard $49.99

I went ahead and got the SideWinder X6 for $44.99 shipped off Amazon. Hopefully it will be easier to type on and less noisy. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I appreciate it.

I hope so, I've been feeling a slight bit of buyers remorse...I've never paid $45 for a keyboard before but it seemed like such a good deal for $45 shipped when its usually $60+.

Yeah, I saw the x4 but it has not been released yet and it going to cost $49 so when I saw the x6 for $45 I jumped on it. I needed a keyboard now so waiting was not really an option.

I will tell you what I think when I get the keyboard on Wednesday next week, killer slow USPS free shipping FTW. =\

    Update:

Well I got my X6 today, two days early from Amazon. Anyways, so far so good, it feels great and the keys are a bit quieter than my previous cheapo Logitech.

It will take me a few days to really get used to typing on it but its much better and easier than my previous keyboard. The only downside thus far is the lack of little risers on the back of the keyboard which means that it basically sits flat on my desktop. I would have liked to have had the back raised slightly. This is really only a minor thing for me, but I am sure I can get used to it.

Nice to hear you liked it, already went up in price.

I'm waiting for the x4, hoping it has the same feeling as all the ms keyboards i have had over years. But the flat none raising is something that im still getting used to, currently with the logitech illuminated its the same deal, flat slim barely raises, at first i dislike it but the more and more i use it, the less i find it bad, more an inconvenience that its slowly disappearing, regardless, ill have to get used as the x4 will have the same low profile style.

If you want a low buttons check Logitech Illuminated the keys are very low and good tactile feeling, not sure how it will do on gaming, but for typing is really good. Another option for a low profile keys type is Razer Lycosa. Be sure to check reviews online as im not sure how are this keyboard for gaming, i mostly used them to type as i used a nostromo n52 for playing.

The Microsoft keyboards with low profiles keys are all decent. But most of them are curved ergonomic keyboards. I have a comfort curve 2000 myself, very good value for money.

This is what I was going to recommend. From what I've heard, the Logitech Illuminated keyboard is pretty good.

I have this one but I was looking at the Logitech Wireless Wave Desktop , Seemed pretty good, plus I liked the wave in it. It was a pleasure to type on in-store.

Yeah, I know there are better keyboards if you want to spend over $50, but that's just not something I am willing to do for a keyboard. :)

Gotta save up for my 5870!!!
