I I'm looking for an external HDD as Backup medium for my new Laptop

    Interfaces: I guess USB 2.0

Space: absolut minimum 160GB - Better 320GB and up

Speed: Well the faster the better but probably USB 2.0 will limit that anyways

Portability: Very portable, definitely no external power

    Brands:
    I dont care

Software and platform: Vista 64 Business

Price Range: I definitely dont wanna pay more than about $100

    Durability: Most important

Thank you very much for your help

I have Western Digital Passport 120GB it uses USB power. Just a single wire from the hard to to the PC is all you need. It acts justs like a regular hard drive, no software needed. There's a Western Digital Passport Essential Portable 250GB, which is a newer version of the one I have, for 99 USD at Amazon.com The 160GB version is 75 at amazon. And if you don't mind going over budget the 320GB is 120. They come in a bunch of different colors too.

Toshiba has one similer to the WD Passport and it is in the same price range as the Passport.

I just wanted to jump in and give my support to the Toshiba 160GB portable hard drive. I bought it a couple of months ago and I haven't had one single problem with it. I took it out of the box and plugged it into my USB port and that was that, I was ready to start using it.

I agree on the Toshiba portable hard drives. I got three on sale at Circuit City last week...320gb for 119.99. Circuit City's price is up to 169 this week, but J & R Music World has it for 119.99 this week...Best Buy has it for 129.99 this week.

A lot of storage for not a lot of money.

I just returned 2 iomega eGo drives to Dell. The iomega needs 2 USBs to work. OK drive, but I like the Toshiba better...and only 1 USB needed.
