I know this may not be the best forum for this xD but I know you guys are great so I thought why not!

    Hai guys,

So my friend is in need of a new printer, since his old HP just died.

We don't want him to get an HP again, unless for some god awful reason they're better now. Always had software problems, the machine was klunky and whatnot.

    Anywho,

Looking in sub 200$ range, even less if possible. Looking for an inkjet that is multifunctional, but don't need a fax. Needs to be quick, functional, and not a pain.

As well, my friend says that in the near feature he will be starting design classes and will want to be able to print some decent quality stuff.

Hopefully we can get this =D

    thanks guys

    Wes

I just got an hp c4480 from Best Buy. It was on sale for $80, and I love it. Just make sure that if you're using a USB hub, it's powered!

I'd go with HP Printers they seem to be quite reliable, I have the All in One 3210. I've never had good luck with printers, but HP's products seem to last :D

I don't think you guys read. I said he doesn't want to get an HP printer. One of these reasons is bad software, another one being that their Photo Printing quality is average at most.

We're looking at Epson/Canon since they seem to be the better image producers out there...

You did say "unless they're better now"... Common consensus seems to be that hp is a good brand of printer. I just replaced a 6 month old canon with an hp because the Canon broke. It had flimsy build construction too; the hp is more solid. I have no opinion on epson.

Also, you don't have to install any hp software other than their driver. I hate their photo software. Microsoft Scanner & Printer wizard works great for obtaining images. Photo editing software does the rest.

one more thing about Epson - they don't make anything else other than printers, scanners and projectors))

HP printers are good so long as you don't get a cheap one. I paid about 130 for mine back in 2002 and its been running problem free ever since.

Agree with Epson having superior inkjet printers.

Take a look at the workforce 600. Great printer and currently on sale for $129 at best buy. It comes with a high capacity black cartridge that will yield 800+ pages out of the box.

Eh, that is a pretty low end printer, tri-color ink cartridges are a thing of the past.
