Just 15 minutes ago, Razer released a photo and some info on their newest mouse, the Abyssus.
The Abyssus is an ambidextrous optical mouse, using the same 3,500 DPI optical sensor found in the new DeathAdder, and 1,000Hz polling as well. It has only three "ultra-responsive" buttons, which fits with Razer's "back to basics" claim. It's priced at $49.99.
Personally, I'm a bit disappointed. The whole "no-nonsense straight up optical gaming mouse" niche is already filled by the DeathAdder. According to the Facebook post, the Abyssus is oriented towards competitive gaming. On the plus side, this mouse has two buttons on the bottom for instant adjustment of DPI and polling rate, with no drivers required, so it should at least be nice for plug & play (although you can do the same with other Razer mice as long as you configure them just once)

wow... salmosa v2.0? if anything, they should have come out with another wireless mouse to fit a niche below the mamba and orochi price.
I'm disappointed also -
The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
Does it atleast have LED light? Do the snakes glow?
I was going to get the Salmosa the other day, but after looking at the feature set I wondered what the point would be. The feature set was very disappointing. This mouse really does look like the Salmosa. I think if I get a Razer mouse it will be the new DeathAdder. -
Definitely go for the new DeathAdder if you're in the market for a new mouse.
To me, the Abyssus looks like a cross between the Salmosa and the Orochi. Three buttons like the Salmosa, but shaped like an elongated Orochi.
I just don't see why they did this. The Salmosa has the same number of buttons and same features (except for the DPI), and is $10 less. The DeathAdder does everything that the Abyssus does and more, and is only $10 more. It seems like this mouse just doesn't have a place. -
Why did Razer even bother just for this...
-
That's what I wondered. It doesn't really have a niche in Razer's product line. There's the Salmosa slightly below it, and the DeathAdder slightly above, both fittingly priced at $10 above or below this.
I will grant that it has an awesome name though. -
WTH is an Abyssus anyways?
-
Some name this hardcore geek made up haha
He looks really creepy. -
Razer should just stick with a few solid products instead of trying to fill every price point...
-
Well I want a bigger Orochi. Something bluetooth, but full sized.

I think this Abyssus would have made a good wireless mouse, to fit the market of people who want gaming-grade wireless without paying full price for a Mamba.
sgogeta, I totally agree. They've got way too many mice out right now, and a lot of them are way too similar. The list so far:
- DeathAdder (they also have a Mac Edition sold as a separate product, but I consider them one and the same)
- Lachesis
- Mamba
- Orochi
- Naga
- Abyssus
- Diamondback 3G
- Krait
- Boomslang CE
- Copperhead
- Salmosa

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Razer's next mouse should be called Eusslus.

Clever ^_^

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Hm, was the reason i held out on buying a Orochi?
NO. -
Razor does have a lot of mice for a gaming company. All you need is one super mouse with a bunch of different grips. Tons of buttons. Then make a wireless one for the pretty boys.
-
I don't think one model is the solution; the G9 has three grips and adjustable weights, but it still isn't perfect for everyone. I think Razer should narrow it down to the DeathAdder, Mamba, Lachesis, Copperhead or Diamondback 3G (one or the other), Naga, and Orochi. They'd still have all of their basic shapes covered, and decent options for both palm and claw grippers, as well as wired, wireless and Bluetooth.

I think there should be a gel pad mouse that conforms to your hand.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
-
Yep, that too. It's like a hybrid of the Copperhead, DeathAdder, and Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer.
-
BOOM.
Problem solved. -
Perhaps, but that would be pretty tough to integrate with the buttons and everything. The way I see it, Logitech is set with the MX518, G5/G500, G7 and G9/G9X.
-
meh. i just dont see much of a point to it. it has the performance of a gaming mouse, but without the extra buttons and comfort of a gaming mouse thier is no point to the price. i say they should add a thumb button on each side and drop the price another 10 bucks and it would be worth it over the deathadder. sort of an ambidextrous gaming mouse. right now though i wouldnt go for it.
-
But for the ambidextrous, there's the Lachesis, and for the more budget-conscious, the Diamondback 3G.
