I am looking for a new mouse but I have no idea of what to get. I have been looking at Rat 9, logitech G 700 and razor mamba but I can't decide what to get. What do you recomend?
Thank you for the help.![]()

the rat 9 is just a rat 7 but wireless as far as i know. i have the mamba and it feels nice. i dont know anything about the g700 though. out of the three i would go with the mamba.
-
I love my Mamba. The only downside is that it's more expensive than the other two, but it's worth every penny if you ask me. The G700 is more portable, as it uses a small USB stick receiver instead of the dock that the Mamba uses...that isn't to say that you can't put the Mamba and its dock into a backpack, of course. And I personally like the fact that you can just drop the Mamba on the dock to charge it while still in wireless mode; with the G700 you have to plug it in.
-
If you like the look & feel of Razer products, get the Razer Mamba.
Personally, I would go with a Logitech G700:
(1) It is the most portable out of the 3 (because it uses a small receiver, and not a dock like the other two mice)
(2) uses a standard AA battery instead of a custom battery (so it is easy and inexpensive to replace the battery when it starts losing charge capabity a year or two down the road).
(3) Is the least expensive out of the 3 mice, by a long shot. -
G700 has the best sensor out of all three,,, mamba and rat9 both use the ty phillips sensor.
-
also the g700 likes hard mats, so make sure u get a nice quality hard mat with it. The avago 9500 series sensors dont like soft mats at all...
-
Logitech G700.
Took me 2 months reviewing what mouse I really need out of that three, Yes that last three was my final choices too. Gaming mouse, 1000hz polling rate, and most of all wireless.
And I'd say go for the Logitech g700. Mamba looks nice but that's all there is to it seriously. I don't see any advantage that Mamba can give over the logitech G700.
Portable Wise - G700 wins
Number of Useable buttons - G700 wins
Looks - Mamba wins
Table space consumption - G700 wins
Price Wise - G700 wins
Feel - it depends on you -
glides smooth as ever. -
@crayonyes
I also have the same setup. I upgraded from mx518 so I kept the steelseries QCK+ mousepad and the G700 works there like the mx518.
But mx518 is really like the God of mouses for me. If it was only wireless and has 13 buttons. Lol -
To me the perfect gaming mouse would be one with a comfortable ergonomic shape, minimum number of buttons i require (2 right side buttons and DPI on-the-fly buttons), accurate sensor, light-weight, great driver support, wireless with reasonable battery life. The Mamba does come close however the poor drivers, poor sensor(most impt) and oversized dock ruins it a little. So i would still pick the G700, even thought i have no use for many of the buttons. Having said that, i would get the Mamba 4G if the sensor is really as good as they say it is, however, early reviews seem to say otherwise.

well to the average person you wont notice, but most lazer mice you want a hard pad. IM a pretty hard core gamer and on a soft pad there is wayyyyyy to much acceleration, i could careless about how fast it glides and all that.
So if you want the best out of your sensor with the G700 i reccomend the the Steelseries 4HD or 9HD. I personally have the Steelseries XAI which has the same sensor as the G700, and the both combined are real damn sexy. It all depends on what type of grip you have, and what type of games you play as well. I have a finger type grip, so the xai fits perfectly for my hands.
If you want the best of the best right now, its wired, and has the best sensor on the market,, the Puretrak Valor and the CM Storm Spawn. They are both brand new and maybe a bit hard to find (would have to order online). But this all depends on how hardcore of a gamer you really are, and how much you apprecieate sensors. -
mat manufacturers provides some speed vs control softmat, for instance.
it's not like they say "speed surface is too much acceleration and not for hardcore gamers "
by the way, same sensor in different models can give you different results, because mice manufacturers also have their own tweaks -
like i said to the average person,, it wont make a difference you dont notice the positive or negative acceleration.... Lift of distance etc....
But to a hardcore gamer,, you will notice them bigtime. and the difference between a hard and soft mat, with the Avago 9500 sensors is a night and day difference when it comes to the acceleration, itt can throw off your entire game.
But if you are just a average dude using a mouse, then u wont even notice it.
but if you do choose the g700, and you are a hardcore gamer and want the best out of your mouse. Get a hard mat.
Goto overclockers.net they are experts there who can explain more to you about the mice than anyone here can. if you want answers on this subject thats the place to go. -
and soft mats with speed and control... still doesnt make a difference, its what the sensor is reflecting off of.... not how it feels.
-
But there are a lot of other considerations in favor of soft mats, even if a hard mat provides better mousing surface performance:
(1) It may start getting uncomfortable to rest the edge of your hand on a hard mat for hours on end.
(2) A metal hardmat is going to be cold to the touch. That may not be comfortable, depending on your personal preferences.
I'm not saying that hardmats or softmats are better or worse... just mentioning a couple of other factors to consider that may not have been mentioned already. -
yeah comfortabilty,,, soft mat will be better,,, you could always get both,,, a cheap soft mat for browsing and such.... and get a steelseries 4hd or 9hd... for gameing
-
G700. 10 char.
-
That said, I've been pretty happy with my soft Goliathus as well, and I really like the insane surface area. -
-
Heh, everyone's got different ideas of comfort, I guess. I personally loved the wrist pad. To me, the main issue with resting my hand directly on the metal pad was condensation; after a while moisture from my hand starts condensing on the pad, and the wetness throws off tracking when you mouse directly over it.
-
A bigtime Hardcore gamer said "The avago 9500 series sensors dont like soft mats at all"
and here I am with qck softmat and I can aim precisely, don't get any acceleration and have zero problem with G700+softmat. lesson learned? -
I had a seperate thread but it seems like there is some good info here. I posted in the other one I'm stuck between the DeathAdder and G700. The thing is, I want a gaming mouse (to upgrade from my Logitech LX8), but also a portable mouse for use on the go, so the wireless is a big deal to me (especially now with the tiny "Nano" receivers).
I understand that the response time in a G700 is on par with wired gaming mice, the thing is, how is it for portability? Can I use this mouse without a mouse pad when I'm on the go?
I don't see the need for 13 buttons vs 5, however, I might be getting into The Old Republic, so not sure on the button thing. -
Thanks for all the answers. It looks like I will get the G700. From what I have heard here it is the best muse.
-
Both deathadder and G700 are greatt upgrade from your current mouse.
with wireless gaming mice though, you will feel the battery is too short.
it's not a problem to me because I keep extra rechargeables for G700,
swapping battery is just like 3 seconds.
All in all , as always recommended by people, choose what you like better in grip.
go to local store and see how you feel about them -
I did go to Best Buy to check them out a few days ago, unfortunately all the gaming mice remained boxed up while the laptop mouses were available to grip. They had the DA and G700, unfortunately my only option to "try" them was to feel through the plastic
The battery thing I worry about too. My LX8 has never needed the batteries changed, both AA's have lasted the 2 years I've had them, while my understanding is that the single AA in the G700 would die in a day (however, I typically only use a mouse when gaming, and I don't game very often). The contrary that worries me is the cord on the DA, I don't want it to get in the way or being too long when going mobile. -
yeah, personally I can't go back to wired after experiencing the convenience of wireless mice
-
G700 not too flashy but it's a tank as I've beat the crap out of mine. Holding up really well and the receiver is great since my kids can't get ahold of it easily.
New mouse. Rat 9, G 700 or mamba
