Having a really tough time now to pick out a new mouse.
The last one I had was the Orochi which was okay after I got use to it. Still have a firm negative stand on it's small size and tiny side buttons. After I sold it I figured I can go on for a little bit without a mouse and just use my traveling mouse in the mean time. [just a cheap pos with a retractable usb cable]
I was REALLY anticipating the RAT 7, but after reading some of the negative reviews; I'm seconding guessing it now. I love the idea of the customizations and a big plus is the right side attachment for the pinky rest. Which is probably one of the main reasons why I still want to get the mouse on top of just the "coolness factors" of adjusting everything.
My choice right now is RAT 7 vs g9x
If I can figure out where and how to get another $40
Mamba vs g700
I just don't know >.<
I've been reading "countless" reviews everywhere, on every website I can on all 4 mice. I love the mamba but not the price. I love the g700 but since it's so new.. the price again.. Plus I'm not sure about the 4 side buttons on the g700 all cramped there. I was playing around with it at the store, not sure about those side buttons. Probably something I have to get use to after a while. I felt the g9x too but it had the normal grip on and not the other one that has fatter sides to grip.
Imo, the g9x is a fatter, larger, better version of the orochi. I was able to palm it when I was looking at it. Which is a definite plus because I'm originally a palmer; even though I got use to the orochi's feel... I'd much rather prefer a larger set mouse to rest on and fully palm.
What should I do?! Those of you who have had any experience, tell me what you think. Trust me, after hours of searching all weekend, I still can't make up my mind![]()

Get the G700. You'll be glad you did. I mainly play fps and the four side buttons never get in the way and are just hot keyed to do stuff. I have had the orochi and the g9 and this is by far better and though I have never used the mamba, I honestly don't see how it could be better. The G700 just has the tiny receiver and is much more comfortable which I am basing off of the deathadder.

Honestly, if it's coming down to price, get the G9. The G9 is everything the G9x is minus a modest DPI increase, which you most likely will not use anyway unless you like gaming at 5k+ DPI (I don't). If you are settling on the Mamba or the G700, I would go the G700 route. Not only is it cheaper than the Mamba, but it offers essentially the same performance as well.

I have the Mamba, and it's an excellent mouse. The G700 and Mamba are pretty much on par in terms of specs; both have 1ms response in wired and wireless modes, and 5,600 (Mamba) vs. 5,700 (G700) DPI. The G700 has more buttons, which is good if you need more than 7.

Get the Logitech G700.
The major benefit over the Mamba is that the batteries in the Logitech G700 last longer. The Logitech G700 also has a much smaller receiver, instead of the large receiving base of the Mamba. This makes the overall Logitech G700 package much more travel-friendly. -
wow thanks for all the responses, yeah the g9 and g9x is a throw up because of the DPI. It's sort of hard to find a cheap g9 though that's the problem. It's the same price as the g9x so figured just pick that over the g9.
Yeah the g700, ughhh. Such a nice mouse. Need to figure out where to get another $30 =\ I definitely agree with all of you though. If the mamba was cheaper I would consider that more.
How is Logitech's customer service? they're turn around time if you sent in your mouse for repair?
After watching more reviews on youtube and reading more reviews, I've thrown out the RAT 7. So now it's basically g9x vs g700. Unless if I can somehow get a mamba for cheap.
My brother has a performance mx and I love the feel of it so I like the g700 based on that and the reputation of the name. Quality control is always exceeding par. Tiny receiver.
Mamba.. is just mamba. I've always wanted one.
hmm... -
How much longer does the battery last at 1,000Hz polling and 5,700 DPI, out of curiosity? My Mamba gets right around 16 at 1,000Hz/5,600 DPI. I just charge it overnight, and it's never been an issue.
And the G700 is more portable, but I get the impression that both of these mice are really meant for more stationary desktop setups.
As for the G9, I used to have one. I tried all the grips, and none of them really impressed me that much...I wish they had made one the size of the ID grip, but with the anti-sweat coating of the Precision grip. It's a decent mouse if you can't decide what shape is good for your hands or if you need adjustable weights, which I never cared for. Even the 3,200 DPI of the original G9 is plenty. -
I'm going to my 3hr Capital Budgeting and Management lecture happy
right now
I was searching around and found a logitech coupon code.
Bought the g700 $79.68 shipped.

I'm kinda into the mad catz mice, what negatives did you hear about the rat 7? I would like a wireless mouse as well but with the rat 9 it has a huge honking base for its receiver instead of one of those plug in usb's (its made for a desktop). How does the orochi work in bluethooth mode compared with wireless usb? Does it have the same responce?
-
Bluetooth is an inherently laggy connection; it's something like 14ms response time, although I've read that the Orochi has a "gaming-optimized" connection that somehow trims it down to 8ms. Either way, that's at the level of most non-gaming mice. The Orochi's Bluetooth mode is primarily for "normal" mouse use; I wouldn't game while connected via Bluetooth (with the Orochi or any other mouse), but that's why it comes with a cable.
In USB wired mode, the Orochi is capable of 4,000 DPI and 1ms response. In Bluetooth mode, it is capable of 2,000 DPI and 8ms response and will go into power saving mode after being idle for several seconds to conserve battery power.
When you say "compared with wireless USB", I guess it depends on what mouse you're talking about. In terms of most "normal" non-gaming mice that have 8ms response times, the Orochi is pretty much right on par. If you're talking about 1ms response mice like the Mamba and G700, then the Orochi is at a considerable disadvantage while in Bluetooth mode. -
what shroom said. I put my orochi through hell playing cod over this summer when I got it. I had it always plugged in all the time, the autosleep mode was destroying me.
Yeah, having it plugged in the response is instantaneous.
Some things that really made me change my mind about the rat7 were:
1) right pinky rest adapter is not flush with the mouse. So there's a small wobble, but enough that it is irritating.
2) left thumb rest, when it's adjusted out; it can be pushed in then it'll have to be readjusted. Just normal use is fine, but if you're gaming and end up raging; people were saying with "some" force [not a lot really] it is easily able to be pushed in.
3) The palm rest has wobble at the very last couple extensions. So for people with big hands it could be very irritating.
4) the sensor is really finicky with mouse pads. Seems like it is a hit or miss if the mouse tracks really jerky/shutters or it does track fine
5) one review I saw, the second dpi adjustment button, when depressed it changed the dpi and right clicked at the same time. (shrugs) could be a faulty button?
The adjustments, pink rest, sniper button is what kept me wanting to buy it. I bet with some small modification to the pinky rest it wouldn't wobble. Adding a larger teflon foot. Who knows
