Well long time since I have been here lol.

But I have/had some M-Audio bX5a's and one of them has a nasty buzz and I think is basically dead.

So I am starting to think about something else.

They would be used on a desk for music while working and the occasional movie.
I know what good sound is from my dad's B&W speakers and Rotel (spelling?) CD player ($10,000 sounds system) and I have some nice Ultrasone headphones.

I dont have that much money (college and stuff), but I also dont want something that is worse than what my laptop is.

I am even thinking about the Logitech z-5500 but they are really old and I am worried about mid range suck out and I think are rather expensive for what they are.

I would consider making my own speakers (ie. partsexpress.com) or something.

I just want the best deal.

The M-Audios were plenty so I do not need much more but I am a little sceptically of them now and maybe just a little more bass/power at times would have been nice.

    Any thoughts?

If you were happy with the M-Audios, then get another set of them. You also couldn't go wrong by buying something like a pair of Swans M200 speakers (I think they are up to Swans M200MKII), and hooking them up to a $100 Dayton 10" Subwoofer. That was an extremely popular setup for computer audiophiles looking to get good sound on the cheap.

You might also want to check out the flavor-of-the-month, the Corsair SP2500 2.1 speaker set. I am normally too much of an audio elitist snob to buy anything labeled as "computer multimedia 2.1...", but Corsair has been on fire by putting out a lot of very high quality products that aren't computer memory. If my current speakers were to die, I'd be tempted to give these speakers a try.
