I'm a completely new laptop user. I have a softcover briefcase-type bag that is perfect for carrying my laptop and accessories, but it has no padding. I'm trying to determine if the soft "sleeves" are padded enough to give protection. I'm planning to buy from Amazon so I'll be ordering sight unseen.

    thanks!

You mean laptop inside sleeve, then sleeve inside the briefcase?

It would provide alot more protection if you bought the sleeve but of course, enough protection to a certain point, but before buying, check out eBags for alot more choices.

Thanks, I'll check out the ebags.

Yes, laptop in sleeve, then sleeve inside briefcase. When we take the laptop with us, it will primarily be in the car.

Am I correct that a sleeve made of Neoprene, while giving some protection, won't give much in a soft, fabric briefcase. I'm getting the impression the neoprene bags are primarily to prevent scratches when placed in another bag. I'm looking for something that will give relatively good protection from bumps. Maybe I should just go buy a laptop briefcase.

It can absorb minor shocks and is waterproof.

I've ordered one. I looked at some laptop carrying cases in Staples yesterday. The canvas one I already have, coupled with the sleeve, should give as much protection as those I looked at...unless I bought one with a hard case. Thanks so much.

Ive Got the Kensington Saddle bag pro, its quite a good laptop case. Its got a nice armored ( plastic but hey, better than nylon) "junk drawer " that slides out and you can keep mice Pc cards and mp3 players in it, its got tons of open pockets and zippered pockets , When i get a decent Camera, i will write a review of it.

Wow, that's a really cool bag!! I carry some junk in my bag - memory keys, cables, earbud headphones, etc - that drawer would come in handy for me!

Yes, I'd like to see the review! :D

sfbags.com has got some really good sleeves which protect the laptop.
