What size laptop will this thing carry? My new 15.4 inch MBP would look quite sexy with this back pack

My two roommates had this...a 15.4" fits easily. There's a separate slot for just the laptop in the back that's slightly padded.

that's an amazing deal. i really love north face laptop bags. i purchased big shot few months ago and couldn't be happier. i'm sure surge is even more impressive. it's too bad they only have black in stock. thanks for sharing.

i also want to mention that i stopped using laptop sleeves because of the padded interior. no scratches of any sort thus far.

I have this backpack and actually paid the full retail price when it first came out. I had both a 15.4" HP D6000T and a 15.4" Latitude D820 before. They both fit in the laptop compartment but were both quite a snug fit. What i didnt like about the laptop compartment is that there's only one zipper so it closes to one side. With a 15.4" notebook in the compartment, you have to be careful when you close the zipper because the zipper can easily scratch the corner of the notebook where the zipper closes. The notebook compartment is a little narrow at the top near the zipper so you also have to be careful placing your laptop into the compartment because the zipper can scratch the surface of the notebook.

    $69.99 is a steal!

Darnit. Four months ago I bought a NF Heckler over the surge and it just keeps coming back to haunt me. Now, if I had waited I could have gotten the surge instead of getting a sleeve next month

yeah in general north face backpacks are big but adjustable. They are, in my opinion, the best backpacks on the market today based on looks, longevity (i had my last one all throughout middle school and high school) and storage space

It's definitely long. ~3" shorter and it would have been the perfect backpack.

I've read a review where the user stated his or her Macbook Pro 17" notebook just barely fit in the notebook compartment. The depth on the Macbook Pro's are much shorter then any other notebook in its class, so i'll take a guess and say no other 17" notebook will fit in the notebook compartment.

You might be able to fit a 17" notebook in the regular compartment though because they are much larger.

Does anyone know how the Ogio Politan compares to this? I'm looking to buy one of them. I love the design on the Politan, but now that the Surge is so cheap, it's really tempting me!

The surge is really good quality.

I took it snowmobiling in Colorado this winter and it is a very strong pack.

Asus G1S will not fit in this backpack. I am returning it. I have G1P but same size as a G1S. It might fit if you shove it in really really hard but you will end up ripping something and scuffing the side of your laptop.

The wide...I can't even get it into the sleeve. I was pretty mad since the dimensions suggested that our G1 laptop would fit in it. It is such a nice backpack and i needed something this big for all my textbooks and binders for class. Also, checking out the dimensions on the Northface Recon, I highly doubt it will fit our G1 since it is qouted to have a smaller Dimension than the Surge. I am looking at the Jansport Rockridge but i have a feeling that would be too small though. It is a backpack and a messenger bag.

P.S.- I bought the Surge backpack from ebags w/ pricematch.

Could you do me a favor and measure the width of the laptop portion of the bag? The Asus G1 is 11.2" wide, and the Compal IFL90 I'm buying is ~10.85" wide, so I'm wondering if it'd fit. :)

My Inspiron 6000 is 10.5" wide and it fits pretty snug.

You could probably squeeze the 11.2" in there it would be a tight fit though that is for sure.

Can't fit a G1 laptop...you can try shoving it or whatever but I'd rather not go through that everyday and abuse my laptop like that either. I really doubt the Compal will fit easily either unless you put some elbow grease into it. Good luck

The dv6000t just fits in it. It has the dimension of 14.05 X 10.12 X 1"-1.69". Anything larger then those dimensions and you'll have to shove it into the laptop compartment. Anything smaller will have no problem at all.

I just received my T61 51.4" notebook today and i can confirm that with the 9-cell battery attached, it will not fit into the notebook compartment. It will fit into the regular compartment though with the 9-cell attached.

The notebook itself without the extended battery will fit in either compartments.

Ehh, i was never totally in love with the laptop compartment on the surge anyways. I'll just end up sleeving the notebook and "throwing" it into the larger of the three compartments.

On that note, the Case Logic Laptop Shuttle sleeve with the compartment fits the T61 15.4" w/ 9-cell perfectly!
