Hi everyone. I just purchased a Dell E207WFP (Cyber Monday sale..) and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the colors. I ran it through the Lagom calibration test as much as it would allow and, while I definitely expected that it wouldn't be the most amazing screen ever, I was disappointed beyond my expectations. It can't see the top row of the black test, nor anything past the first image in the white test. It failed the sharpness test and there isn't even a sharpness adjust in the display menu. The screen in my Vaio SR performs better than the E207WFP on the color tests.. I expected an external monitor to at least match the laptop's performance.

Keep in mind, this is my first LCD monitor. My question is - is this just the way TN LCD panels are, or can I do better in this size (20") and price range ($150 - $250). Thank you.

I picked up an LG L227WTG 22" monitor for my SR a couple of weeks ago for $249 at Best Buy
the color saturation is really high, deep blacks, and it's really sharp
the screen looks better than my SR's
I guess you just made a poor purchase, there are some really nice screens out there

The truth of the matter is no LCD is worth much unless you calibrate it. If you're truly that picky about the accuracy of your screen you may be better off investing in a real calibrator before you decide the monitor isn't going to work. Eye-One Display 2 and ColorEyes are both excellent.

As for the actual quality of the display..personally I have a hard time tolerating anything in that particular price range but I find these to be some of the better ones:
