    Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a cooler for a dv7 but I'm not sure what to get since the fan placement seems so important. There is a picture the bottom of the laptop. The rear of the laptop is on the bottom of the picture

The air blows out from the two vents on the bottom right corner. I'm guessing all the other vents allow the air to be sucked in but I'm not sure, I can't really feel anything. I always use my laptop on a desk so it doesn't matter if the cooler is a bit big or heavy. I'd like to be able to put it in a laptop bag but really good cooling is my priority. I don't mind about noise that much and money is not an issue. I also don't care about brands and colour. I live in Australia and considering the size of notebook coolers, it would be best if I can order it from Australia (for example I already looked around for the NZXT Cryo but couldn't find it, it seems to be out of stock or discontinued everywhere in Australia) but if there is a reasonably cheap alternative, it's fine with me.
    Thanks in advance.

If you are not having any issues with the system getting hot, good elevation is is the key. This will allow the air to move through the bottom and pulling the hot air away from the notebook, that is mostly what cooler is doing. Blowing the air into the vents defeats the whole purpose of pulling the hot air away from the system.

If you must have a cooler, try something like this.

    cheers ...

Which state are you in bud?
Also is your laptop past its warranty?

    Hello,
I live in South Australia and I'm pretty sure it is still under warranty as I got the extended one. I always elevate my computer and If I don't after about an hour of gaming I get temperatures of 90 degrees. I was thinking of cleaning the laptop but I'm not comfortable doing this at home and I was wondering how much it cost to do it professionally. Unless you're suggesting that the warranty can somehow cover this. That would be great.
    Thanks for your help.
By the way, which model is the cooler in the photo, qhn?

Cooler Master U3 is the best option by far.

It has 3 detachable fans that can be placed anywhere, it´s silent and doesn´t steal a USB port.

That looks pretty good alstrike, I'll check it out.
I may have spoken too quickly about not cleaning my laptop at home. I guess it all depends on whether it makes a difference and how hard it is. I have heard some people saying that cleaning the fans with an can of compressed air is all you needed to do, while others suggested putting new thermal paste for the heatsinks. What do you think?

just clean the fans, dont bother changing the paste, you are giving yourself some headaches.

    Thanks for your help everyone.
I cleaned the fan (which was horrible since the laptop is badly designed and I had to take apart half of it) and I also got the U3.
    I also formatted it.
Now it doesn't go above 75 degrees when I'm gaming and my desk doesn't feel like a grill anymore.

    Thanks again

A good idea if your laptop is out of warranty is to drill holes through the bottom plastic to help air intake, that's why I asked.
