With an i7 studio xps 16 on the way, I am looking at grabbing a decent cooler to keep the laptop running in the best condition, hopefully reducing the heating issues. I will use this laptop a lot so I have no problem buying the higher end of laptop coolers if it is warranted, and I am looking at the NC2000 or the NZXT cryo. Does anyone have any experience with either of these and a studio xps 16?

The NZXT cryo is roughly US$15 more than the NC2000 (I live in Australia). I could really use the extra USB ports of the cryo, however the fact that it is a lot noisier could be problematic. I currently have a USB replicator however it is a cheapo one that I would like to eliminate if possible.

So is there anything I should know (or any alternatives) that I am missing? The main reason I am posting as I saw in the guide that matching up the vents with the cooler is important, however as I have never bought a laptop cooler before and the laptop hasn't yet arrived, I have no idea how to check this.

Vantec makes some good coolers. I dont know if they're available in Australia though. Belkin is another maker.

I have the NC2000 silver model. It's pretty nice, has an alluminum top but only has 2 USB ports (one of which will be used to get power from the laptop). I don't have experience with the Cryo but I read reviews that it's a pretty decent cooler if you don't mind the noise. the NC2000 is super quite....sometimes I don't think it's even on unless I put my hand on the vents to feel the air. Also, the air doesn't blow very hard even on the highest setting. In my opinion, I would go for the Cryo. By the way, congrats on the laptop. I wish I can buy a notebook with an i7 right now =)

Thanks for the help. As it doesn't seem like the laptop will arrive any time soon due to Dell missing the parts, I won't need to purchase for a while. Thinking it through, I still am unsure.

    As I see it:

    NC2000

    + looks
    + low noise

    Cryo

    + extra usb ports
    - noise

If there are no problems in terms of port alignment / heating issues, then I am leaning towards the NC2000 with the price difference going towards a USB hub.

Well note that both the NC2000 and Cryo LX don't have their fans positioned at the same spot so the "cooling solution" will not be applied directly to the same area under the laptop. The NC2000's fans are near the rear while the Cryo's are near the front/mid. So a good thing once you receive your Studio XPS 16 is to check the ventilation ports' placement(not the vent grill in the back since we all know about that one).

I think Enermax Aeolus CP001G or any other laptop cooler with a big fan will suit the SXPS 16

u have it backwards. the nc2k has it's cooling surface towards the front and the cryo has it towards the mid/rear.

as far as raw cooling power, the nc2k cannot compare to that of the cryo LX. the xps16 also has it's GPU/CPU vent towards the rear, so the cryo LX will be more effective than the nc2k in this application. from personal experience, my cryo LX is very quiet. it can only be heard from a few feet away, if the room is dead silent. other than that, i have to check sometimes just to make sure it's on. looks are up to the buyer. i personally think the cryo LX is the best lookin cooler available. i have the silver brushed aluminum one that matches perfectly with my tuxedo black m1530 ;)

I had a look at that but the curved metal had rest at the front is not for me as I use an external keyboard, mouse and monitor at home, so the space in front of the laptop can't be blocked as that's where my keyboard goes.

Thanks a lot for the info, I think this has swayed my mind. I don't mind a bit of a hum in the background, but every review I read made out the sound to be a lot more than other coolers. But if the noise isn't as bad as the reviews made out then that would be the best bet.

Although I won't be buying any time soon as the XPS 1645 is experiencing constant delays
