I have a Logitech Alto Connect (riser + usb hub) at work and I'm really happy with it so I bought another one for home use. Just elevating the laptop significantly above the desk does A LOT to keep my work notebook cool. Now my predicament - my home notebook will be soon be replaced by a shiny new Dell XPS 15 (on order) and I'd like some additional cooling for my 525m overclocking efforts.

Are there any notebook coolers out there that would work in combination with the Alto Connect? The bottom of the Zalman C3000 is pretty flat (last pic below) - could I set it on top of the Connect and use them both together? Or should I buy one of these and just point it at the main heatpipe vent for when I'm gaming?

    Thanks!

Could someone with a Zalman C3000 say if the back is completely flat or not? It's hard to tell from the pictures :(

I can understand why you would want to do this but I can't see it drastically giving you better results than you just using either or. The Zalman has a fan for forced cooling and the Logitech uses on-board cooling in conjunction with natural cooling. By putting your laptop on the Zalman then the Zalman on the Logitech you defeat the purpose of the Logitech since the Zalman brings air through the comp.

Not sure if you will understand this at all but it seems like your defeating the concepts behind these two coolers.

I know what you're saying :D . The alto lowers temps by elevating the laptop and the zalman lowers temps by blowing air over the warm components. I figured elevating the laptop AND blowing air across it would give you more of a boost.

Even if I didn't care about cooling I would use the alto anyways since it does the amazing job of elevating the laptop up to a more ergonomic height while still giving you enough of a built-in usb hub to hook up your keyboard / mouse / thumb drive.
