    Do they actually work? Evidence of lowering temperatures? What is the best brand? Thanks in advance.

    Yes, they work. They can be noisy, and they change the angle and height of your keyboard, so that may be a consideration.

    I'll leave it to others to suggest brands, as the screen angle of my Envy is too shallow to really allow for a laptop cooler, so I've not used one in a long time.
