Hi all. I'm looking to get a set of speakers for a business D630 laptop. I don't use the sound much at work, but at home, I'd like to listen to music on it, but would like better speakers than the internal speaker.

What notebook speaker set is great?

    Thanks.

    Hi there.

Suppose I get the Logitech X 230 2.1 system. Can the D630 use that? It only has a Headphone jack and a Microphone jack.

Does the X-230 2.1 just use a jack that goes right into the Headphone Jack?

    Thanks!

Yes most go right into the headphone jack.

I believe they go directly into the headphone jack. Where else would it go? lol...

    Oh ok.

I just wanted to make sure it didn't need "1" and "2", like on the SoundBlaster cards.

So the X230 has only one plug. I guess that is good.

Yes. I'm using the same set of speakers now (and so are a lot of people on my floor... they're cheap, lol). The quality isn't great, but they are many times better than onboard speakers.

Yes, it's just a plug into the headphone jack.

    Thanks for the suggestions :)

I actually do have the Klipsch Promedia v2 4.1 system for a desktop in another room. I like those speakers...very much.

I had thought that the 2.1 needed 2 sets of wires too, but now that I know it just plugs right into the headphone jack, that is something to consider.

So here are the options so far that WILL work with the D630 via the single Headphone jack (please correct me if I am wrong..):

    Klipsch 2.1 (GMX or no?)
    Logitech Z-2300
    Logitech x 230

Which one is probably the best for the money?

I would say the X-230, you can't go wrong with them and for only 35 dollars.

Just bought the Logitech Z-10 2.0 set. Was a bit worried about the lack of a sub but have been very pleased with the quality of even the bass. I already have a set of Logitech Z-680 5.1 speakers in the same room and the Z-10's actually put up a good fight in the clarity and depth stakes. The LCD has actually proved quite useful especially when watching a full screen movie as it tells you the state of your system and pop email status. Great space-savers compared to the 2.1 alternatives, less cable mess and the usb connection is a great idea.

On the downside they run a bit warm and they will show up the flaws in a poorly encoded mp3. But thats about all the faults I have with them.

A good two channel system should be fine as long as they have decent low end extension. A good majority of the time the 20-70hz range is only noticeable in movies and some rap music. Thats not to say there aren't exceptions.

For portability i would look at these, i'm still pretty hot on them.
