I am potentially on the cusp of purchasing my first laptop and am starting to think about the miscellaneous other details that one must bear in mind when purchasing new equipment.

The reason I'm strongly considering purchasing a laptop is that I'm tired of being limited to accessing the internet by way of my phone. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful tool and all but phone-based web-access still has a long way to come.
Anyway, because I'm intending to carry this laptop around quite a lot, I figures it's rather important to find myself a suitable bag.

The laptop I'm leaning towards at the moment is the UL30 but if we just say it'll be an 11-13" laptop of some sort, that keeps my options open a bit.
I would prefer a 'messenger' style bag as opposed to a backpack - I never wear backpacks on both shoulders and find them ill-suited to one-shouldered use.
Lastly, and this is where things start to get a little complex, I want the bag to be suitable for carrying round a small D-SLR/EVIL camera and possible an extra lens or two.

I fully understand that the last point requires an extra bit of specialisation that most laptop bags aren't suited for and I'm probably going to make enquiries on a digital camera forum as well but I figured I'd ask here as the level of knowledge and the helpfulness I've encountered so far have been wonderful.
    Thanks.

Crumpler does alot of camera and a couple of notebook bags, both backpack and messenger style. You might be able to find one with a mix, they do have alot of random products. :p Or perhaps a more flexible option would be to make you purchase decision based on your camera needs, pick up a messenger style bag with plenty of extra space so you can fit a notebook + sleeve in it as well.

Yeah, already been looking at the Crumpler website, along with Lowepro ( another big camera bag maker) and Timbuk2.
So far nothing's really jumped out though - a lot of them seem to be for either camera equipment or a laptop and the few bags that seem to be designed for both aren't the sort of style I'm after.

Still, I'm sure I'll find something eventually.
As I say, just asked on the off-chance someone knew of one.

Oh, as for Crumpler, I used to love their range of bean bags.
Always wanted one but could never really justify the expense given I had no need for it...

You intend to carry a laptop and SLR, plus a couple of lenses most of the time? That's gonna be quite heavy to carry around all day. The laptop weighs about 1.8kg, SLR plus lenses could be 1 to 1.5kg and the bag itself - a strong, well padded bag will be more than 1kg. So, the whole lot could weigh over 4kg!

I've carried a laptop and small compact camera - weighing about 2.5kgin total - in a messsenger type bag with a padded Lowepro strap (15 quid) on day trips to museum etc., and my shoulders will ache a fair bit from all the weight. That's why, now, I tend to use a backpack more if I need to carry a lot of stuff. I know some people think wearing a backpack with both straps makes you look like a tourist/dork, but it's so much more comfortable!

Have you had a look at the Incase bags? http://www.goincase.com/bags/

What I'm looking at getting is either an Olympus EP-1 or the Panasonic GF1, so very much at the smallest end of the spectrum when it comes to a D-SLR/EVIL camera - not to mention µ4/3 lenses are pretty small and light as well.

I already have a Canon EOS 20D and some lenses but I find that I don't carry it around all that often due to size/weight concerns and this second camera would be to complement it, to offer me something smaller and lighter that I will carry round with me most of the time - but, unless I do make provisions to have it with me on an almost-daily basis, it kinda defeats the point of buying it; if I leave it at home all the time it's no better than my 20D.

Also, I'm not sure what sort of lens set-up I'll go for, I may just settle for something like the standard 14-42mm ( 28-84 equivalent) kit lens as it's meant to be a reasonable all-round lens, so I may decide to forgo any extra lenses purely from a convenience point-of-view.

I would really be looking to just carry the laptop and the camera ( + possibly the extra lens) and nothing else, it's very much just a 'day bag', hence why I want a laptop with the sort of battery life the ULV processor allow.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I did actually check out every link in the first post sticky at the top of this section but nothing jumped out at me.

    I like tombihn.com bags.
They are made in their in house factory in Seattle.
They cost more than most though.
