I have an extremely hot running Dell, and a new HP on the way, which I've heard runs a little hot. On both machines, the fan is located in the back left corner. I'm looking for a cooling pad with compatible fans that can be used on a lap (i.e. comfortable, with fans on sides/back vs. bottom). I've read on the forums about the Cooler Master NotePal Infinite, which seems like the perfect fit for me. Unfornuately, I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I could find one online to be shipped to the U.S? Or know of a comparible product that would work for me?

Before you buy a cooler, stick a pack of sticky notes under the back and see how raising the notebook affects your temp.

for your lap maybe put a towel if its just too hot for you, instead of u think your temp is too hot.

Putting a towel on your lap and using your laptop on it is quite a bad idea, for the main reason that you will most likely block the vents of your laptop. While this will probably keep the heat from spreading to your lap too much, you'll kill your laptop. It is much better to use a hard surface. As for the Cooler Master, this should be an excellent resource for finding retailers or online dealers that have the Cooler Master in stock.

    1) What model notebooks are they, and where is the general hot spot.

    2) Will you be gaming or is this regular use

    3) Is noise an issue for you

If you fill those out it would be very helpful

Inspiron 600 and HP dv5z. Mostly regular lap use (I have an iMac I use when I feel like sitting at a desk). Regular fan noise is not a problem for me, as long as it's not a 'ticking' noise of poorly balanced fans...

I checked a lot (not all) of the sources listed on Cooler Master's website, but haven't found one in the U.S. that carries the NotePal Infinite.

You can buy from there if your in the states (notepal infinite)

It should be pretty decent with the 600m but could you post a pic of the bottom of the DV5Z? I was unable to find one online

    Fantastic! Thank you so much!!

I mis-typed earlier- it's an Inspiron 6000. And here's a picture of the bottom of the dv5z, borrowed from the review here

Try the NotebookBuddy. I got mine at thenotebookbuddy.com (18.95). It is made of a magic material that keeps the notebook off your legs but lets air move freely to the vents. It's light, flexible and fits easily in my bags while acting as extra padding. Love it. Great on the desk too.
