Hi.
I'm going to be picking up a new notebook pretty soon, and I'm wondering about notebook cooling pads. They look like they definitely come in handy, but I'm not too sure about where I can find reliable reviews. Anyone have any suggestions?
What I'm looking for is a pad suitable for 17" notebooks. USB hubs and the like are unnecessary; it's alright if it needs to be connected to A/C power, too. It'll be purely for home use, as I consider notebook cooling pads too bulky to be carried around (yeah, yeah, ironic for someone who wants a 17" notebook).
Anyone have any suggestions?

Have a look at my review (in sig) just to get an idea of things
Its not widely available in Europe or the US...but its just for a read
The Zalman NC1000/2000 are popular around here. -
Hmmm. Any idea if I can pick that up in Asia? Would I have to ship them over from the US/UK?
-
Oh, your from asia? Great! read the review again, I bought it from Hong Kong
hehe, I have heard they are available in Malaysia too.

I have the spire pacific breeze for all my 17" laptops but it's a big big shame they're discontinued. It got a lot of positive ratings.

Not too sure if I'll be headed to Hong Kong anytime soon, heh. Malaysia's really easy, though; could make a day trip there anytime.
Come to think of it, though, the UK would be alright. Gonna be there on vacation later this year, and could pick it up then.
Would a 17" notebook fit on the Infinite, though...? -
I wouldnt suggst a cooling pad... I had one and it started "Surging My USB port" and randomly shutting off the fans. Then, my grandmother bought one for her laptop and whenever you plugged it in or unplugged it, the computer SHUTS OFF immediatly. Id suggest something more like this, it also doesnt take any battery power...

^It didnt become a clickable link for some reason... -
That's a hell of a link there.
Well, that's why I'm looking for something that draws power from an A/C outlet, I guess. Yeah, a docking station would work nicely, I suppose... -
Mines plugged in a logitech USB hub which uses a seperate power supply. You can also get this AC adapter that has USB plug (for charging ipods and such)
The only downside of having a seperate power supply for the cooling pad is it wont turn off/on automatically the same time as the laptop. You will have to switch it seperately. I usually let my cooling pad run an extra few mins after the laptop has shutdown which can also be a good thing -
Doesn't bother me, having to turn the cooling pad off manually. Like I said, it'll be mainly for home use, so it's not too much trouble for the reward of not having flaming hands. I can do without Burning Hands, thanks.

Get the Zalman NC2000 - its made for 17" notebooks. Have mine on order at the mo, but they are in short supply and out of stock in most places!

tried the ilap? it looks interesting
-
Zalman NC2000? K, I'll look it up - thanks!
iLap? I detest objects named "i-whatever" that aren't Apple products. DETEST.
(Probably wouldn't stop me from buying 'em if they were useful, though. I'll check that out, too.) -
