    I remember when my dad got his first work lappy, there was this dock thingy that we could slot the laptop into and connect to the telly and use it as a dvd player.
    Do laptop manufacturers (Dell/Apple especially) still make these? How much do they go for?

    For sure companies still make laptop docks. Dell and Lenovo make some that are used very often. However, Apple does not.
