I've been thinking for the last two days of buying external monitor to use with my main notebook(a vaio). This notebook's monitor is a 15" and 1440x900 screen resolution.

I was first thinking of attaching a monitor vertically, as I've seen around but I've heard that not all support the vertical setup? Is this true?
Main reason for getting an external monitor is of course the extra screen space and a vertical setup would be ideal for coding. For the vertical setup I was thinking of 1440x900 screen resolution and no more than 19" so it's not too big.
Another option is to get a bigger monitor and use my notebook as a docking station but that will force me to spend much more.

Here is the one I was looking at. Pretty decent price/quality - VH198D - Monitor LCD Asus - Monclick - VH198D

What do you guys think? Anyone has/had this setup ? What are your suggestions?

I really need some advice from the ones that had/has/seen such since I'm on a low budget and I don't want to make a bad decision here.

    Thanks a bunch! :)

You should be able to rotate the monitor's image via your GPU's software. (ie. ATI Catalyst)

Yeah I see no reason for not being able to use the setup in a vertical manner.

I have a monitor above my setup at home that uses ATI and I have it working fine.

I also use USB adapters at work with there own software/drivers and they let us setup the monitor for any orientation. Had to go that route at work since the intergated intel chips suck and have no 2nd monitor port.
