Isnt the u3 a lot larger? I have a 15.6 inch laptop, will it accomodate it better?

The Notepal U3 is a full-size cooler for a full-size notebook. I have it and it fits nicely (fans removed) inside my Targus 17" w/dome Messenger case.

If you have plans to lug it around, go the U2 unless you have a case that can accomodate an 18 inch laptop (although it is a 17 inch cooler you should allow extra room for scratch resistance). To be honest download speedfan and if your HDD doesn't exceed 50 degrees in normal use then the extra fans won't really be an advantage.

The U2 and U3 are great cooling platforms with subpar fans. U3 comes with a fan speed controller, U2 does not.

The size of a U2 is such that it will almost perfectly fit the bottom of the current MBP 15 with half inch of overhanging edges on either side. Add an extra 1-1.5" parameter all around the U2 and you get the size of the U3.

Here's a vid to show you the size of the U2:
