Hi I was curious if anyone here has experience with the walmart ONN brand micro sd cards? I saw a 2x 32 gb bundle for about 12$ and went for that, both were detected by my pc and one of them is in my wifi only a01. I'm a bit worried since the walmart page for a single 32gb says on backorder or no longer available, it doesn't have anything but that so I couldn't read reviews. The 64gb/120/256 page is there and they are still selling those with overall average reviews some good some bad. Only thing that would bother me is photos loss, I occasionally backup my photos to an hdd but I won't be taking many photos on the a01, my main phone has a 32gb sandisk never had problems. I previously had a PNY and that died and I lost some photos I really wanted, I've read that the ONN brand is just PNY for less money. I've only ever had an ONN powerbank and it's been ok, seems to take a lot longer to charge since I got it a couple years ago though, but it still works. Anyone have any experience with ONN cards?

I picked up a Patriot 128GB for under $20. I compared a ton of them before going for it. I have a holder full of different cards for different purposes and this Patriot works best. It gets the speeds needed for copying large data to / from it and it just works.
PNY I use their NVME CS3030 as a primary drive currently and don't have an issue with them. I also have a thumb drive that's lasted a few years so far as well.
The view on these things though is to temporarily hold data and not a backup solution. Use them for what they are and move the data off them periodically to not lose it. They tend to flake out for various reasons over time and due to their size physically are more prone to issues due to how they're carried. -
Yeah that's a pretty good price, in my local walmart that size and brand is 26$ on the shelf in stock. I greatly prefer a physical store for returns. It wasn't that much more for 1x64gb sandisk but I liked breaking it up into 2x32, I can preload movies etc on them and swap them out on the road or I could insert one just for a trip for photo taking then take it out later on when it's full. Idk I'll try this out, it's hard to believe no one here has tried onn since it's sold by probably the largest retailer in america.

It's a concept of how cheap these are to replace / throw away as needed. Off brands don't typically get much traction in being discussed.
128GB should be enough to load movies onto and leave in the phone. I use an app that allows me to copy over WIFI instead of physically attaching the phone / SD to something to move data and it's faster in most cases since the port on the phone is USB 2 speeds though USB-C for higher charging speeds @ 30W. The app though lets me charge the phone and copy from the network at high speed in the background.
I initially used the SD though for copying / updating my NAV in my car and those packages were ~30GB and waiting on a 10MB/s copy rate was not an option. I also upgraded the drive in the car from a mechanical to an mSATA SSD to speed things up when calculating / loading routes.
Later on I decided to just upgrade the whole NAV system to a 10.1" Android system with added features the OEM was missing due to age.
Anyway.. the fastest speeds I tested for SD based on price / GB ended with this particular card. -
Oh I am just photos and movies for my backup note 4 and now the A01, both used for the time being as wifi/ereader/movies devices. So read write speeds aren't the most important anyways since my laptop has a terrible microsd slot speeds of only 25mb/s but once copied over no big deal.

Just need a good card reader. I picked one up to bypass the slot on the side and got better speeds that way. Of course looking at the purchase now they don't sell it anymore.
Faster cards though work better for movies depends on the resolution / format you're viewing though. The Patriot is still a reliable contender. -
It's so infrequent that a card reader isn't worth the trouble/cost. I have an old one but I think it's usb2 speeds, might be better I'll have to try it. I don't know why they even put a card reader with such low speeds in this laptop, waste for the most part.

Could be the card itself not the reader.

True, these are only class 1 10mb/s I think the sandisk 64gb for 4$ more is class 3 30MB/s. I only put 1080p/720p video or less anyways, especially for small screen viewing in the wild. I may take them back based on how strongly I get to feeling about the difference, thankfully I've got 90 days to decide.

Instead of an SDCard, how about using one of these micro flash drives?
