I bought Altec Lansing's VS2220 2.0 speakers. While the sound output seemed good to me, they are just gigantic for what I need (not moving them with my laptop all the time, but occasionally when playing DVDs/Music at a friend's place).
I was looking at more portable-friendly options:
The Logitech V20
and
The Altec Lansing XT1
Anyone have opinions on which set would perform better as far as sound-quality goes?
I'm not an audiophile, but I would like to know I am spending my money wisely.
Maybe I am just better off finding a smaller/cheaper set similar to the VS2220, as I am probably sacrificing a lot of sound for a little portability![]()

I would recommend the creative travelsound speakers. They have excellent sound quality, and creative mostly makes audo products so you know It's going to be good. I saw a pair of speakers a year ago... I was absolutly blown away by the rich and very high quality sound it produces. And it is very very loud for it's size. I personally own creative travelsound speakers and also purchased some for my mom for Christmas. They run at around $30-$100. I have seen them for as cheap as $30 w/o the built in mp3 player. I have one with a built in mp3 player, and a digital voice recorder. It works great! The speakers are have 2, 1" titanium drivers and they will run for around 20 hours! These are the best porbable speakers out there! Take a look at them!
Currently the best place to buy them is on ebay, from Creative Labs Factory outlet store. I recently purchased my mom a set for under $40 shipped with the build in mp3 player and digital voice recorder. I will get you a link to there factory outlet store if you are interested. -
I 2nd the travelsound.Great sound,light and inexpensive

We did a review a while back on the AL set if you want to check that out.

I didn't look into the Travelsound sets because I thought they were all battery-powered (hate messing with batteries), but I'll take a look.
I read the review of the V20, but I was hoping to get a good comparison of those with the XT1. I was able to check out the V20 at CompUSA, but I haven't found the XT1 anywhere nearby.
Thanks for the replies! -
Hey, silencejar, with the travelsound speakers, you can buy a cable so you can plug it into the wall. It costs about $15, or you might be able to pick up somthing elseware other then directly from creative. Or you can use 4 AAA battaries. I use a good 800MAH rechargable battaries and the speakers run great!

They have reviews of the V20's and the XT1's, if that's of any help.
They really seem to dig the XT1s. -
I recently returned a set of the V20's simply because when using them at even half volume, they vibrated all over my desk and never stayed in one spot. Even when I added stick on rubber foot pads, they still danced all over the place. So, what to buy next.......... I did some research and for portable computer speakers under $100, I don't think you can beat the performance of a set of Klipsch Pro Media Ultra 2.0's. These are incredible speakers for the money and probably because rather than using 28mm drivers, they use 64mm drivers and two of them in each side plus a tweeter horn. Granted, they are a slightly bigger set of speakers but the way I look at it is by asking myself this question, Am I actually going to take these speakers on the road with my notebook while traveling? If you are, then by all means, go with one of the two sets you mentioned in your original post but if these speakers are going to spend most of their life on your desk and you just don't want the clutter of having a big sub woofer on the floor, then you really can't beat the Pro Media Ultra 2.0's in my opinion.
Respectfully,

Thanks for the opinions and ideas!
I'll have to do a little more looking around now before I buy again
Opinions on these two portable speaker sets...
