    Hey guys
I'm looking for an SDHC reader for my PCMCIA slot, and was wondering if there are any good ones out.
Mainly, I don't really care much for speed; all I want is for it to support 32gb SDHC cards (because on some, I see that it says that it only supports up to 8gb). Although if it does support 32gb SDHC, speed would definitely be a plus.

I've seen an old Sandisk PCMCIA 6-in-1 reader that has a recent upgrade that says SDHC on it that works quite fast, but it's just a slight cosmetic+hardware upgrade and has not really been acknowledged by any store or even by Sandisk itself, so I can't check which version it is.

But yeah, I live in Canada, so I can't order from stores that only ship to the US; eBay is most likely the easiest option for me, although I don't mind buying from other places; I just really need a 32gb SDHC reader.

    Thanks everyone in advance.

Is a USB SDHC adaptor an option? They are much easier to find. In my experience the media card performance is slower than the USB 2.0 interface although the reader hardware can also be a bottleneck.

Nope, not USB; it's cuz my old secondary laptop only has a 60gb 1.8" HDD, and im not entirely sure which type of 1.8" hdd to replace it for (not sure if mine uses 40pin or 50pin IDE, so i can't find a correct converter from ZIF), so I just want the extra space to store misc stuff, such as shows I can watch. Basically I want the extra space without the extra physical space.

So yeah, I really don't mind if it's slow, I just want something I can shove in my PCMCIA slot, and SDHC seems to be the best option.

Regarding your HDD interface problem, span.com has some good info about the connectors for the difference models.

According to this site, the SDHC specification works up to 32GB.

Compact Flash is another option for which you can get PCMCIA adaptors.

Thanks John; I'll look into the HDD thing
But SDHC is really my only option since I want to be able to use it in future ultraportable laptops that I'm going to replace this with (since newer ones only have expresscard, not PCMCIA, and compact flash doesn't fit into expresscard)

So yeah, I'm still looking for a PCMCIA 32gb SDHC reader; couldn't really care much about speed

Ahhh, thanks; was considering a CF reader before but I want something that I can use in my future ultraportable laptop replacement; i.e. one with either an SDHC card slot or with just a standard 34mm expresscard
So yeah, still stuck on the SDHC reader >____< i really need help
