I'm in need of a way to get a firewire port on this laptop. I have an older video cammera that's about to crap out and the only remaining output that works is the firewire (long story). I've been told that using a PCMCIA card with a firewire port will get the job done, but the transfer will be painfully slow and not so good quality.

Any input? Recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Check your notebook's specs. You probably have a Cardbus-compatible slot which is faster than the original PCMCIA. I wouldn't have expected it to be pitifully slow. I thought those cards could support the full Firewire speed.

Otherwise, if it is a one-off transfer, do you have a friend who has a Firewire port on their computer and a DVD burner. You can then copy the material and dump it onto DVD(s). Copying to a USB HDD is the other option.
