I would like to get a passive cooler for a new gaming laptop. I'm thinking I would travel with it.

These are the two I've been looking at:

    Xpad Slim
    https://amzn.com/B001RQ2HWK

    SlateGo Mini
    https://amzn.com/B00K955XUS

The Xpad is much cheaper and I think it may be more functional. I like the look of the SlateGo, but if I were to put the thing on a bed the blanket would completely block the holes. The Xpad always keeps the laptop elevated so long as the rubber X lands in the right place. The only downside is that apparently it has a rubber smell that eventually dissipates.

Any thoughts on either of these?

That's an interesting approach, though really I'm just looking for a thin and portable board that will keep the laptop elevated so the vents are clear of any obstruction.

Actually, the ideal board would be made of strong thin alloy with holes like the slate and pop up risers. So like 1/4" and less than 0.5 lbs

Sorry to ask this but what's the point of this? Have you got the temps on your P650 yet? Like I considered one with my old GT60 that ran warm, but I just straight up don't need one with temps barely in the 70s on mine.

There's no reason not to shop for one, but I'd recommend not purchasing until you get your temps and are unhappy with them or something.

I just need something reasonable for when I put the P650 in my lap or set it down on a soft surface. I don't want to block all that excellent ventilation! Travel size is another requirement.

I like the way those look. How do they stick to the bottom of the laptop? I was looking for something like that on Amazon but didn't see anything.

@FredSRichardson they are like car gadget holders. I personally use these (11x5mm variety), but I wouldn't say they're high enough to provide clearance on soft surfaces. E.g. if you're wearing jeans and put a lot of these on the bottom of your laptop it's probably OK, but when you use it say in bed or on a pillow - no way.

Okay, I took another look, they are like suction cups. I think there would be room on the bottom of the P650RS-G for these and it's pretty nice solution.

I did end up buying the Xpad Slim. It is pretty good, though I'm not sure about the build quality. We'll see how it holds up. Those little rubber things are nice and portable =)

I've been using the XPad Slim with the P650RS and it works out really way. It's thin and it keeps the laptop plenty elevated to keep the air breezing through.
