I'm looking for something portable that provides passive cooling (my laptop runs cool and doesn't need external fans) at a tilt.
What I'm looking for is something that will fit into my laptop's backpack and provide a comfortable tilt to make typing more comfortable. I like what I see in the size and tilt of the Zalman NC2000 and the open grill work but I don't really need the fans at all. Does anyone know if there is a product like this sans the fans? I did find something called the Xpad but it doesn't have a tilt at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

passive coolers suck,
go for zalman,
what do you mean that you dont need external fans?your laptop can run cool but every laptop can run more cooler with zalman nc2000.
for me,a laptop never runs cool when there is a potential and possibility to run it cooler.(with zalman coolers, thermal paste etc.)
passive coolers are not worth to buy and they dont cool laptops enough, why not going for zalman, will external fans kill you? -

well, if you just want to raise the back just about anything will do...
Lego blocks as mentioned above, post it notes, a pack of tissues...
And passive cooling can be quite useful for laptops that don't run hot - and it doesn't need any electricity. -
From what you are describing, you should takea look at the Coolermaster Notepal U2 (no fan version)

I built myself a K'nex stand that essentially just lifts my Thinkpad T500 off the desk by about 2 inches. At idle, it seems to decrease CPU temperatures some 3-4 degrees.

well that mac feets block the fans... :\
lego blocks really sounds a great idea, I'm sure I'll give it a try.
you may want to try this http://www.thermaltake.com/product_info.aspx?PARENT_CID=C_00000120&id=C_00000711&name=iXoft&ovid=

This one is nice too.

Does anyone else raise the front of the laptop? I find from using the MS Natural Wireless set that its more comfortable typing when the keyboard is angled downwards.

Design dependent, but an option.

I use CoolBalls

If I didnt have those I would use 2 of those big eraser blocks because they are cheap/light/shock absorbing/grippy -
Hmmm. Nice balls.
I will have to try out a pair. -

It was a deal Cin' posted $0.99 w/ free shipping from meritline. I ended up getting them and it worked perfectly, gives me the tilt and cooling I need with no bulky/expensive cooler to take around. Also lets me slide my laptop around by picking up the front 2 rubber feet so I can move it on my desk easier. For that reason I prefer them to a rubber like surface that most props will be made out of. The laptop is not going to go anywhere unless I move it myself so its not like its at risk. -
lots of great ideas but one comment i'd like to make is that by adding a permanent leg/feet that sticks out 1"... you're taking away from the portability of the laptop... and in essence, you're carrying around bulk... hence i was a big fan of the folding one...
but as said, the folding one covers too much of the vent on my m6400 so i cannot use it and have resorted to lego's...
make sure you get the big blocks... =) -
I like the look of them better than the nodular look of the Cool Feet. I will have to give them a try.

they (coolballs) are not permanent it attaches with velcro and I pul them off when I put my laptop in the bag. They are hollow plastic, they take up no space and weight maybe as much as 2 pennies.
Passive coolers with tilt?
