I'm leaning towards the 1080, but before spending this much I want to know if anybody has tried out the 1080 cc. It just looks to me as though it won't hold the laptop as securely.

I also came across something in the Sony section where a small Sony laptop worked very well in the 1080, and I'm rather confused as to why Pelican makes the 1080 cc model at all.

    Thanks for any input.

Looks poorly built. Seems like you could make something exactly like it for about 30 dollars worth of supplies from Home Depo.

I would personally just get a thick bag with a dedicated laptop compartment and an extra sleeve for additional protection if you are feeling extra paranoid.

Pelican cases aren't poorly built. I've seen them in person. I've also jumped on them. I want this so I don't have to worry about crushing the M11x when I toss it in the trunk of a car with loads of other stuff.

The question was really just which foam type to go with.

Meever, those pelicans are built to last... and comes very highly recommended among professionals who need heavy duty protection... ie: photographers transporting lots of expensive lenses and whatnot.

but Sirhcz0r, ok, i get it, you love your laptop... but don't you think it's a bit over the top? of course, i don't know your background and/or profession but for normal/average civilian uses, a simple messenger or laptop bag will suffice, no?

if for travel purposes, that bag seems like it won't fit anything else... hence it will qualify as your one carry on... unless you put it inside a larger carry on case... in which, for security check, you have to remove the pelican, then the laptop, then pass scanner, then put it back in the pelican, then in the larger bag...

just seems a lot of work to me...

but then again, it's just one person's opinion...

It does seem rather silly to stick a notebook that's designed for portability inside a case that not only weighs about 60% of the notebook but more importantly, can only contain the notebook.

I'd look at a well padded sleeve if you already have a bag. Or maybe if you what to go overkill and carry other stuff at the same time, you could look at cases like the Hardigg (and now part of Pelican) IM2370. http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail_storm.php?Case=iM2370

I use the 2370's to carry laptops along with paraphenalia when they're likely to be thrown about - superceded the less protective Zero Halliburtons. However it's not what I consider a daily carry as it's very bulky.

I already have a Wenger/Swissgear messenger bag that I had purchased for my M1530, the 1080/1080cc will fit in there just fine, as well as hold other things that need less protection.
