I now have a new laptop! I bought the Battalion SL from ibuypower.com, and it just arrived yesterday! (even though I ordered it 5/31/04 [ :(!]) Anyway, I will be doing a lot of gaming and thus will need a real mouse. I am looking for a relatively cheap, wireless mouse. I've heard that having a wireless mouse can cut down on your battery life though, and I really dont want that, so I could live with a wired mouse if battery cut down is significant. I also dont know much about where or how my mouse should be connnected, through bluetooth or infrared or just the USB port. One thing I do know, it must be optical! I hate ball mice! Any info would be great, thanks!

A wireless mouse doesn't cause a measurable impact on battery, at least not from what I've found. I recommend the Logitech MX900, either IR or Bluetooth.

I don't think you would notice a slight drop in battery time from using a wireless mouse. The bulk of the power is taken up by the mouse and if it's wireless, it'll be using batteries. Since I switched to a wireless mouse, my laptop still seems to give me the same amount of time when unplugged...no significant (or frustrating) reduction in batt life. Oh, don't get an IR mouse...requires line of sight. Go with a true wireless mouse or bluetooth.

I just bought Kensington Pocketmouse Pro Wireless. I don’t notice any loss of battery life with the mouse at all. The antenna stores inside the mouse to make it easy to transport, and when the antenna is inside the mouse, it turns off to save the mouse’s battery power. It is full sized and has two buttons and a scroll wheel. Ergonomically, it is very nice.

thanks guys. I just bought the Kensington Pocketmouse Pro Wireless, it was only $40, and I really liked that you could store the USB hub inside the mouse.

Do you know the dpi of the mouse Dan9575? I checked the manual and the kensington website, but I couldn't find the dpi anywhere[?]!

Has anyone tried out these finger mice? I'm a fan of trackballs, and this kinda looks like what I want. But it would probably interfere with your typing because you have to pick it up and put it down all the time. Thoughts?

I just got the Logitec MX 310 optical mouse ($30 I think) for mine and I love it. I almost spent twice as much on the MX 510, which is supposed to be a lot better for gaming, but I honestly can't tell the difference between the 310 and a good ball mouse, except it works on more surfaces. There's a forward and back button, the wheel is very smooth, and it's very comfortable overall. Also, it's fairly small and therefore more portable than the MX 510.

I've used it for the UT2k4 demo and it responds very well.

I bought Microsoft optical mouse for my company's notebook. Very comfortable. After I bought my own notebook I wanted something different. Bought a very small mouse with retractable cable. Its shape is not right and overall it's a little bit roughly made, and its wheel button is a bit too tight to press. Returned it. Then I got a wireless one. Again the shape is not right, plus every thime I have to press two buttons to program it which is inconvenient. I thought I don't really need a wireless mouse, as a PC user I always sit right in front of the PC, not like TV remote control. Returned it. Searched many times and finally I bought the same Microsoft mouse again. The large lighting area on both sides let me see its status from any angle.
