Hi, my best friend is visiting the States and since my HD500 just died, i figured he could probably pick up a pair of HD650s for a third of the cost here. But where is the cheapest place to buy them? I only know of newegg which sells them for $500, i hoped to find a priceindex through google but no luck.
Well, that's it i guess. And thanks in advance =)

Searching online will get you the best prices. Try pricegrabber.com and pricerunner.com to search for the low price.

That is a shockingly high price. Do not buy from major high street retailers unless they have a big sale on is the lesson!
I'd check out Ebay, www.headphone.com, www.moon-audio.com and www.ttvj.com for online buying. I'd leave it to the Americans on the board for store suggestions. Or you can do a search on head-fiIf you're adventurous and have the cash to splash, check out www.headphile.com for wood and cable mods
$400 is Senn 650 territory. Which makes Newegg even more rip-off
P.S. HD500s criticised as dark, boomy, unbalanced y'know...But beauty in the ear of the listener so to speak
Where is "here"? UK? Go into a superfi or high street store and have a listen. At least full size cans are more readily available than portable IEMs. Worse thing is buying a headphone from abroad blind, especially the money this hobby costs
My 2p -
the Bose QuietComfort 3's are better than those Sennheiser
And a lot less than that $500usd -
Thanks for the links! I'll be checking them out tonight when i'm done with my work. Here is Denmark by the way
. I know the HD500s arent that good, i just couldnt afford more as a student at the time but i have been very happy with the purchase despite that. Good advice about trying them out, i was actually going to buy them blindly hehe. Figured it couldnt be worse than the HD500s and all reviews have been positive about them.
Thanks again =) -
As for their anti-noise cancelling phones, they do not work for me. Some electronic marketing hoo-hah pushing air the other way is marketed as "noise cancelling". I see other train commuters struggling to drown out the train with their Bose, whilst I sit in perfect peace with my IEMs. Not meaning to appear difficult, but this is one topic that really sets me off so apologies!Who cares about AMD/Intel, ATI/Nvidia?
Frej: how about buy something for your musical tastes? And possibly with your amp and source if you have all that? But I really do strongly advise going into the high street and listen. I'd imagine Denmark...? Salespeople do not need to know you're not buyingHell, while you're there try the more expensive, out of budget cans. That's what I did
Grado 225's
Remember to ask ahead if they have demo facilities, otherwise you'll need to bring CDs yourself to play or even a portable with you (not ideal for full size cans but...)

Jandr.com often has nice prices, but I'd buy from headphone.com even if there's a slight premium involved. good people
But I agree fully with LFC, try to listen to some other options first. Sennheisers don't suit everyone. Well they do, but sometimes AKG, Ultrasone, or Beyerdynamic suit them better. And you have a lot of excellent options in that price range, where compromises are really hardly made. -
The higher Senns have lifetime warranty.
is that different where you live?
BTW, bose is hated for alot more reasons then priced high. -
You should instead of getting the 650's you should get the 580, they basically have the same drivers in the headphone and if you want the 650 look you can get the metal grilles for them(like I did)

Although I am really impressed by the Wave Radio...it sounds really good, especially when playing store-bought CDs... -
Shopzilla has it for a low of $320. It's $365 at Overstock.com
The question is where would you have it shipped? -
Not sure about the warrenty, but I had my HD500s for so many years and they took quite a beating im ashamed to say, in my teens I used to play a lot of Quakeworld and sometimes you would get frustrated when your game was off, which have resulted in me throwing my HD500s into the wall
. God damned hormones. But they were really sturdy, I have no doubt that if I opt for the HD650s i wont regret it, and that they will last me even longer now, me not being a teen or playing Quake anymore
.
I have looked at those Bose, but they don't seem very high-end. More like something i would consider above a cheap pair of Plantronics for gaming i'm afraid to say. I have been wondering about the Grado SR-1, but i have read they are quite uncomftable if you use more than a few hours. I really think i'm sticking with the HD650s.
Thanks for the shopzilla link, $320 is really cheap!
They are going to get shipped to to the adress where he lives over there, so no worries there =) -
Newegg.com is always a good first starting point, but the $500 is slightly ridiculous o.o
As someone said earlier in the thread, ebay is a good way of finding things cheap. Just watch who you buy from. -
Good luck with the purchase. It's a lot of money none the less.
Place to buy Sennheiser in the US?
