Welll I was wondering how a plasma would be as a monitor???
I think for gaming they would be decent since they run at 600hz.... I am not really knowledgable on screens... so any advice i can get would be awesome.

I am afraid of "screen burn" or whatever its called using plasma... but what are the advantages and disadvantages of plasma vs lcd..... Plasmas are cheaper in my area right now. so im leaning towards that unless otherwise turned off by the idea by some good advice....

Basically right now there is a sale for a 50 inch plasma 720 dpi (i know 1080 is the bomb and way better) but im a cheap yet cute little cuddle bunny haha. plus when your sitting that far back im sure u cant really tell the difference.... plus better frame rates at lower blah blah blah... any pink chickies!\... there is a deal for a Panasonic Vieja 50"er for 849.00 dollars this weekend... and that price to me is wild.

My main applications are basically movie watching (downloaded ripped movies, youtube etc....) and gaming... half the time i use my wireless xbox controller, if not i use my wireless keybaord and mouse.... I am not to hardcore or picky... I do-nt do any photo editing or anything that requiers crazy high ....

please help me this sale is over sunday.

50 inches at 720p resolution is pretty terrible for use as a computer monitor. My 15.4" laptop has 1680x1050, and I think even that is not enough pixels. Monitors surpass 1920x1080 at large sizes as it is.

By the way, I think you mean 1280x720 (known as 720p), not 720 dots per inch.

Plasma should do fine. Nice refresh rate, good resolution, nice contrast...I say get it UNLESS you can find a DLP somewhere.

A couple of months ago I was shopping for a new TV...had about $900 and my choices were a 50in 720p plasma or a 42in 1080p LCD (cheaper brand too)...was about the get the plasma when I went to a HHGregg here in Atlanta...for $899 I picked up a 3D ready 120hz 1080p 60in Mitsubishi DLP...thats right, $900 for a 1080p 60inch TV...granted its not all super thin and what not, but Id say its probably a foot thick if that and is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

i assume you want a big monitor, mainly for video watching?

for movie watching, anything is fine... gaming should be fine too... web surfing on anything bigger than 30" at 1080p will suck... if you sit too front, then you can actually see the pixels and it may get nauseating. if you sit too back to see the whole screen, then its fine, but its just weird ....

if you are multitasking(word, surfing, other stuff), it'll be more worthwile to get 2 smaller screens(at a higher resolution)... but if movie watching is your thing, big is better i guess.... how much space is there between your tv-location and the couch?

I would say no. Too long on your desktop and you're screwed with burn in. UI in video games, windows logo... anything that is just stationary is gonna cause some burn in.

I have 50" LG Plasma hooked on my htpc. Basically it's only for movie use and a lot better than LCD crap in that ;)

However I can clearly see burned images if I use it on Windows desktop or I have some stationary channel on TV (dvb-radio). None of those have stuck for a long time but still visible for some moments. Luckily they disappear after playing videos / tv for a while.

I don't recommend plasma for serious windows use. It'll be nasty. Rather get 42" FullHD LCD, those are around same price as 50" plasmas. You'll lose some image quality in movies but other aspects in desktop use are worth it.

This isn't 5 years ago. Modern plasma displays have built-in methods to deal with burn-in.

Anyway, I would struggle to recommend even a 1080p 50" plasma as a main computer display, let alone 720p, unless you really like to separate your pixels.

Also, I just realized this guy is banned and thus can't see this anyway. :p

I've used my laptop on my 50" 720p plasma, and everything looks great... from 10 feet away. Burn in isn't really a problem past the first 200hrs or so of owning the TV, but it is noticable. Run a screen scrubber for 10 mins if you're concerned about it.

I have a 42" Vizio Lcd that I use as a monitor, 60 hz running at 1920 x 1080. I love it. Great for watching movies, games, ect. Picked it up new in the box for 650. Beats the 1200 I paid for a dell 24" monitor when they first came out.
