Hi, I am looking for a good monitor to complete the tiny screen on my X220.

I am looking at 22"+ monitors with a resolution of 1900x1200 or 1900x1080.

I am mainly going to play games, watch films and write essays - but I need HDMI and VGA input

I have ground it down to a few options and I cant really choose between them.

    Thanks for your help.

    The choices:

    Scan.co.uk: Iiyama 24" LCD Monitor - PLE2407HDS-B1 - £150
    Scan.co.uk: Viewsonic 24" VX2439WM LCD Monitor - £140
    Scan.co.uk: LG 23" E2360V-PN LED Monitor - £145
    Scan.co.uk: 23" LG IPS231P LED HD Monitor - IPS231P-BN - £150
    LG W2442PE-BF Full HD TFT LCD 24" HDMI Monitor | Ebuyer.com - £160
    Benq G2420HD 24" LCD Monitor | Ebuyer.com - £145

PS. I am in England and my budget is £160 at most

I love it. I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. I have good vision, but I'm no expert on monitors

Everything. I don't use my 8130's screen, though it's amazing.

Movies, games, chatting, surfing, music...you name it. If a computer can do it, I see it on my Asus screen.

Advice: If you are looking for a screen, you should go to a store in person and see what you like/need.

Thanks - I know I should look but the high street shops in the uk only show a very limited range and I pretty much have to buy online with little chance of prior viewing

Thanks, but they are literally 3 to 4 times the price of the ones I put up - I cant justify £400 on a monitor, let alone £600

There are these 2 acer - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/22-acer-h223hqebmid-gloss-black-full-hd-dvi-hdmi-vga-1920x1080-200001-300cd-m2-2ms-speakers and http://www.scan.co.uk/products/215-acer-s221hqlbid-led-monitor-full-hd-1920x1080-hdmi-dvi-vga-120m1-250cd-m2-5ms ------ both are cheaper options

those would be great choices. i just know ACER is a great brand when talking about monitors, three of my friends have ACER monitors and they have never gone bad in any way.

out of all of these i would choose the Acer 21.5" S221HQLbid LED Monitor Full HD 1920x1080 HDMI/DVI/VGA 120M:1 250cd/m2 5ms

The reason being is if all of these are in your price range, now look at the specs. by far this one has the highest dynamic contrast ratio (which to me, means alot). You may already know what the contrast ratio does, but just to restate it in lamen terms, it gives the monitor that vivid look, making whites whiter and darks darker. As for all the other specs, they are really solid, so that monitor would be your best bet.

Well this is what I am upgrading from, so everything is an improvement:

    LG TFT DISPLAY: 17" 1280x1024 4:3 250cd/m2 5MS 8000:1 - Silver

And you would pick that over the first monitors I was interested in?

hmm, well that would be a tough choice. well between them all, my personal choice is going with an LED versus an LCD and it depends on what you want.

For example, essentials for me would be the response time, contrast ratio, resolution (duh), brightness, and actual size of the screen.

now if you are crazy about gaming, specifically online then id say go with the Viewsonic 24". its got a great contrast ratio, thee only down side to me, is that its LCD, but with LCD, the response time is faster, and the brightness is awesome. but lets say you would pay attention more to colors and such, and wouldnt mind giving away 3ms of response time, then get the ACER one i chose earlier. those are your two choices.

    I hate making decisions :(

Do you think I would notice the 3ms? given that I am used to the 5ms screen. I really dont know, I like the idea of the bigger screen but of course would prefer a better image.

NB. as a reference point, the screen on my laptop is from the clevo m570RU is (what I consider) to be a very nice screen and very pleasant to use. But its information is:

    Information
    Maximum: 134.3 cd/m²
    Average: 121.3 cd/m²
    Brightness Distribution: 77 %
    Black: 0.25 cd/m²
    Contrast: 510:1
    1900x1200
    17"

I assume either screen is far superior?

okay then, if you are used to a 5ms response time, you will not tell a difference, get the ACER LED one. that one will be perfect for you.

besides, technically LED has better gamut and lighting.
