Well Im working on writing a basic guide to choosing a notebook cooler and decided to do research.

Are you satisfied with your cooler?
How are the temperature drops for you?
    was it worth it?
also which model did you choose and why?

Also if possible post your temperature changes :)

It would be great if people could take the time to vote/fill in these questions

    Cheers :D

    > Satisfied? Yes.

    > I got about 10c in temp drops on things like cpu/gpu but thats in large part to my "Vicious Mod" (see sig for c90s moders club)

    > Yes it was worth it

    > Zalmans Nc-1000 because it looks hawt, is supremely well built, has a tilt to it, and its quiet. I honestly use it more for the fact that it gives me a tilt to type on and to keep my laptop off surfaces than for the straight up cooling properties. Without the cooler the angle of the laptop makes wrist hurt and typing is harder.

    1) Very satisfied

    2) 4-8c. See temps here just after BF2 on OC

    3) Hell ya for $15. Its been 7 months now and still working well. I was expecting the LEDs to die but it hasnt so far

    4) Not sure, it was some cheap generic cooler. I choose it cause of the fan placements. One sits right below my HD vent. Heres a photo

Notice the awkward hole beneath the left fan? I used a hacksaw to cut the stand open and increase the intake to the fans. It cooled my HD by a further 2-3c

I was seriously thinking about getting one for my dv6400 since the temps were rather high, but a BIOS update really brought them down. I should probably still pick one up, as summer is fast approaching......

I use a piece of crap Targus Chillpad which is not even connected anymore and I just use it to elevate my notebook.

    1) Not really

    2) 1-2C

    3) Performance wise no.

    4) Zalman NC-1000. Was touted as one of the best but wasn't the case for me.

Dont use one. I move around to much and get WAY to bored just sitting in one place so no point for me. Use the laptop only for mobility, have a desktop for everything else.

I have an Antec 2-fan. It cools my hard drive about 10 degrees and doesn't cool my processor at all...

The heat sync used to get pretty hot on the side of my laptop, but now doesn't at all. I guess the cooler is just drawing the heat in a different direction, but not really improving performance.

The blue LED is nice though... So it's ok.

I like mine, I haven't checked temp scientifically, but it seems to keep my computer happier. I do wish it didn't have the obnoxious LEDs though. It makes it somewhat more silly to use in public or at work.

I put yes, and awesome investment, or whatever the first one was.
However, mine is not store bought. All stock laptop coolers are crap.
I went ahead and built my own laptop cooler. It is so strong that I have to strap my laptop down, or it will fly away. Its powered by two 530cfm EBM PAPST Industrial grade fans. Each fan is $182, so its out of most people's reaches for laptop coolers. Both fans are powered by a hefty 500 watt 7-36volt adjustable power supply. The fans are 24 volts, and run 1.5amperes of current each. I dont need more than a 3 amp power supply, but the 500watt one was the only one I found which was adjustable. Anyways, the fans running at 7 voltas put out about 75-100x the volume and pressure. amount of any store bought cooler. At full voltage, the fans can literally lift the laptop up off the ground.

My cooler works great, my temperatures never rise more than 3C above room temperature. :D

LOL @ K-TRON. I wonder how much better your comp would work if you could circulate liquid nitrogen through your machine. 200% OC, woo! ;)

What you need to do is add some directional control to that sucker... Make a remote control so your laptop can fly around.

I think this thread should be geared mainly towards gaming/performance notebooks... which need as much cooling as possible.

I know my Zalman NC1000 is good.. I just need to get a NC2000 now to get more cooling. :)

    > Satisfied? Yes.

    > I got a 2-4 degree drop on everything but the hard drive. My HD reads 0 C, so I dont think you can get better than that.

    > For 30 bucks (including shipping), ooh yeah!

    > Zalmans Nc-1000 because it looks great and fits on my logitech alto connect stand.
