Looking for suggestions for a replacement portable gaming mouse. Would prefer wireless, but wired would be OK if everything else fits the bill. I'm looking to replace my Logitech VX Revolution (which I absolutely love) and would want something of a similar size / quality.

I have a bit to spend, but don't really want to push past £45 if I can avoid it.

    Logitech M705 marathon mouse.

I don't know for sure, but I think the 705 is very similar to the VX Revolution. Has a similar shape, button placements, etc. That also means minimal to no learning curve.

It's wireless, and uses 2xAA batteries - battery life is fantastic, they last up to 3 years (claimed by Logitech).

Looks like its almost identical, possibly the VX's replacement? In truth I was looking to get something a little different. I was looking at the MX anywhere which seems to have a smaller form, and the darkfield technology looks interesting. Anyone know how well that works?

Well do you want an actual gaming mouse, or a normal mouse that would suffice for gaming?

Gaming mice need to have 5000+ dpi, the logitech M705 is only ~3500. I do not know of any wireless gaming mice, I just use an M325, basic and cheap, and small works.

Well the VX Rev only had 800 dpi. If you could make do with 800 dpi, you could most certainly get by with 3500. Even on my G9x, my gaming profile is only maxed at 4000 dpi as I prefer it that way.

As well, the M705 is quite close to the VX Rev, so I thought it would be a nice upgrade without drastically changing something the OP really likes, and possibly prefers. The M705 is good for gaming too. Lots of buttons, glides very well on a good surface, and you can kick up the sensitivity with software if you are so inclined to try and get 5000 dpi.

On second thoughts, i'm not convinced i'm that bothered about a high DPI so a "gaming" mouse probably isnt what i'm after. Its more about size and comfort for me. The main issue with my VX is that it doesnt seem to track as well as it used to, and has issues with some surfaces, hence considering something with a darkfield laser...

My M705 tracks well on most surfaces, except transparent surfaces like glass or completely clear plastics. I've actually had no problems with it tracking otherwise.

I have the M705. It doesn't handle well on some surfaces (prefers dark surfaces sometimes), and the tracking experience is nothing compared to a wired mouse with a good sensor. I prefer a mouse that can move across the screen in a wristflick, and it can't quite deliver.

It's otherwise a great mouse, I love the thumb button, which I mapped to Ctrl for most things. It still feels a little small-ish in my hands which may mean it's exactly what you're looking for. I've used it >8h/day on average for a while now, and it seems to want batteries every 10-15 months on that kind of schedule. Really superb battery life.

We must have very different experiences. I have no problems tracking on my black desk surface (fake wood pattern). As for sensitivity, just adjust it to the max, either in OS mouse settings or the Logitech software.

I use a M705 at work, also > 8 hrs a day. I find it fits my hand just right. I've yet to replace the batteries, and it's running on the AA's that came with it slightly over 2 years ago. I leave the mouse on all the time. Thought that's just my experience with it. Love it for work/productivity stuff.
