I sent off my order for a Notebook yesterday and one of the questions that I had was why get Bluetooth Technology? I have a cellular phone with the capability but I don't use the Bluetooth headset. I don't have access to a bluetooth printer.
What practical applications do you use that would necessitate this technology? GPS appears to bee cumbersome, if not illegal, to be hooked up to your Laptop while driving. A wireless mouse can be USB driven. I don't care for a bluetooth headset. My PDA is not Bluetooth capable.

lack of wires/dongles. Instead of needing seperate dongles for headset and mouse, you can have the computer clean and use those components.
of course, if you don't use either, it is of little use. -
You can use that mouse without taking up a USB port?
You can brag about having it?
You can post the fact that you have it?
You can make pictures of it and post them here?
You can play in the park and swing on the swing with bluetooth?
I can't think of anything else...
So, basically, Mouse w/o dongle. -
I have read somewhere that some hackers have been accessing cellular phones through Bluetooth technology. Is this also possible to hack information from a laptop?
-
Depends on the accessories you use it for. My PDA (Mobile Manager as Palm Calls it) has Bluetooth, so I plan to use my new e1505 with my LifeDrive. Also, since I paid for the BlueTooth, I bought the bluetooth mouse, so I didn't have to have a dongle. I guess if I get extra money, someday I might get a BT phone, and other accessories. If you have a BT phone, and data plan, you can use it for DUN with your laptop... probably not lightening fast, but may help in a pinch.

I already have a BT phone, which has a camera on it. Thus, I imagine, I will download my pics from the phone to the laptop using BT.
-
Can i use BT headset for mobile phones to act as headsets for my BT compatible lappy?
-
My BT headset is a little picky though; most of them are I think.
The BT on my mobile has to be inactive before I can use it with my BT laptop.
Its fun to have a BT headset with a laptop particularly if you use skype or gtalk voice. -
I use my BT phone to remote control my winamp, movies and even the desktop. It's my media controller.
BT Headset is awesome, 1 more free hand to do your job. -
Thanks... will try that... now where did i put that little BT headset???

Great for skype, googletalk, msn. 7 hrs battery life and very decent range.
Make sure to have BT version 1.2 or 2.0 to have the wifi friendly support. What this does is it allows for channel hopping to avoid interference especially that wifi runs at the same frequence of 2.4GHz -
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I was wondering if it would be possible to use my bluetooth cellphone (w810i) as a headset for my laptop.
So basically I would dial a skype number from my laptop then be able to walk around and talk on my cell, without having to buy anything extra. -
probably not.. bluetooth has a limited range... then again, i'm sure someone might've done something with some firmware or what not. i really dont know.
-
I use my Bluetooth to connect my Imate SP5 smartphone to ActiveSync on my notebook. Bluetooth has a range of about 65ft (give or take). Yes, I tested range. It's not good for transfering large files as BT is pretty slow.
Perfect for sending pics, music or messages.
Bluetooth headsets for notebooks are nice too. I tried out one of my friends and will be getting one sooner or later.
Yes, you can hack using bluetooth, but it's mostly for fun. People who hack using bluetooth for criminal purposes (ie: sensitive info) would usually work with or know the victim, Being that you must be close by.
I have a stupid question ............ Does bluetooth have to be blue? Can the LED light be another color? -
You can use bluetooth headsets with skype. It's so awesome to walk around and still talk on the computer. Remember that the quality is going to be cell phone quality. Hopefully they will have that fixed with bt2.0 headsets (I want them to come out soon)

I wish Skype was Free forever. Time is running out
I never had a good experience with Cell Phone BT headsets, Sound Quality always seem to suck.
But the ones that are made for laptops are sweet. -
do we have a description on this forum about how to link up a bt headset with a laptop? It seems you need specific SW?
my current lappie (insp 6000) has a bt module and I do already have a logitech bt headset which is used for my cellphone only at the moment. would be nice if I didn't have to buy any addiditonal pieces of HW ...and free SW would be nice too -
Software should be on the computer already. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2729
That is the picture of my bt software where it shows my devices. I would suggest that you enable bt, and double click on the bt symbol in the system tray. Should open the options of pairing and enabling your devices. -
I use bluetooth to...
.....hotsync my Palm TX
.....connect to the internet via my cellphone
.....send/recieve pictures from my cellphone
.....for my mouse. (used to use a dongle but it kept on brushing against things and broke the usb port)
.....In a few days I will get a bluetooth remote control for iTunes, and DVD watching. -
updated my toshiba bluetooth sw from the dell website but the inspiron 6000 will still not pick up my logitech mobile pro headset....i blame the headset (that way i can buy a new one
)
-
ok, do you have the headset in "discoverable" or pairing mode.
-
looks like it really is the headset:
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=headsets_general&message.id=326
the headset can only be turned on or off, nothing more I can change there... => new headset -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
BT 2.0 only has a max transer rate of 3mbps, I dont see that as too good.
I find Bluetooth kinda useless right now...
Practically speaking: What advantages does Bluetooth give a user?
