Pardon me if I am bringing up a thread that has already been discussed upon..!!

But does anyone have any experience with using compatible/refilled/non-genuine cartridges with their inkjet printers....!!

    I have got a Canon MP210....which uses cartridges PG-37 and CL-38 / PG-40 and CL-41....!!

So is it safe to use such cartridges or does it kinda kill the printer slowly or produces low quality sheets and stuff....
And whats the difference between dye-based ink and pigment ink....a guy on eBay claims that the ink refills he is selling has pigment ink and doesn't get smudged or removed when kind of dipped in water.. :D

Any ideas or thoughts regarding this..?? :)

    Andy,
I have bad experiences with my old compaq inkjet printer. It woul be 7 yrs old, if I didnt throw it out.
The standard compaq cartridges were like $35 for black an $45 for color, and no matter what the max number of pages on two full cartridges was like 30 pages.
It was really poor in the economic efficieny calculation. So we tried using the non-branded ink, and man was that a bad idea. The ones I used had a syringe, and a long needle which you had to use to put ink into the cartridge. The problem is the cartridge has a sponge type thing in it, and you have to punch little holes into the sponge with the needle, for any of the ink to get to the bottom of the cartridge. Well this led to many leaks, and more hassle.

Luckily we got a good ole Lexmark 2400 laser printer, and that thing gets 17,600 prints on a toner cartridge.

I had to refill the cartridge a few months ago, and I filled 8 lbs of toner in there. Well it was a humid day, and that was just not good. I had no idea how fine toner is, and how sticky it gets when it is humid.
I basically had filled the cartridge, and since it was humid, the cartridge was like a solid mass of toner. I had to chip it out of there, and I eventually cleaned all of the toner out. I then dried the inside of teh toner cartridge out, and I was ready to go. I ran the dehumidifier in my basement for a few hours, and the air was bone dry. I then filled the toner cartridge to about 11lbs, and now the thing works perfectly. Its really nice, cause I should have about 50,000 pages worth of toner in there.

Good luck, if the price difference between canon cartridges and generic ones is not that great, I would stick with the canon ones.

I too have a HP Laserjet P1006, but it prints only monos....!! Buying a colored laserjet was out of my scope..!! thats why I bought an inkjet..!! the ink has gone down real quick.. :D

I guess refilling is a no-no then....I am a bit scared to try out the non-genuines....though I do have the 3 year accidental breakdown cover on the inkjet.. :D

Came across a guy selling original cartridges real cheap in auctions....just doubtful if he is selling refilled ones, but will try it out once..

i use refilled ink for normal work, keeping a set of original cartridges for work needing high quality/long lasting

alotofthings.com its like $20 for a set of refills (6-7 times), compared to $35 for a set of original

(mine's a HP Officejet 5610)... i wont trust them using pigment inks(or any h igh quality stuff).... that's why im using those refilled ink cartridges just to save money, using real inks when i really need to

besides, when i bought my printer 2 years ago, it was like 150+.... now its like 70+....

i haven't seen/had damage to my printer after refilling it for a year... besides, a printer can be had for like $70... thats the cost of three printer cartridges!

if u really dont want to risk it, then dont do it
