OK guys. I seem to be having printer problems and since I'm not very technical in such matters need some help. So whenever I try to print nothing comes out. I check the print queue, and it say the documents are printing, but again nothing. I have deleted the printer and reloaded. What can I do, to correct the problem? Thanks in advance.

Is the printer turned on, connected, has paper and other consumables?

How is the printer connected? USB / network? Are you printing to the right printer?

    1. You didn't answer about the type of connection.

    2. Check in the printer control panel that it is not set to "use offline".

Maybe it is easiest to go round the problem. Go into the printer control panel and use Add Printer to create a new copy of your printer. This should clear any bug. Then delete the existing printer.

    Dunno. It's bed-time where I am.

I think your printer is sulking. Pull out the mains plug and left it rest for a while.

Right click into the properties for the print driver. In the ports tab, is it set to use a USB port? Do you have another computer you can try it with?

Try reloading your ink cartridge(s) and paper. I assume you've checked to see if the printer itself is showing an error?

Is there any option in the printer driver to run any diagnostics?

You never did tell us what printer it is.

Sorry about that it is an HP Deskjet D1341. I ran all the diagnostice stuff off the HP site, didn't tell me of any problems. Also right before it stopped working I kept getting a low on ink message but the print qualtiy seemed fine, never faded.

Do you have any spare cartridges you can try? If the cartridges have a chip one of them might be having issues. Otherwise, do you have warranty?

Ok the printer does work I just tried it on my spare computer that is rather old. So know I'm thinking that this may be a Vista related problem? Very frustrating. Would a system restore possibly solve the issue?

I would first try deleting all trace of the installation of this printer in your present Vista installation, then reinstall. Also, try that new cartridge.

It is also possible that there is some unseen communication between printer driver and printer. I've come across HP cartridges which refused to print because they were out of date although still full of ink. I can't remember whether there was any message indicating the problem.

Go in through device manager and uninstall the printer drivers until it just won't come back anymore, sometimes this will take a few attempts. Then uninstall the HP software through program's and features. If that doesn't do it, you could try doing some registry crawling, or a reinstallation of Windows might just be easier.

Oh, and when you reinstall the HP software and drivers make sure to download the package again.
