I'm considering placing my HP 1020 laser printer on top of my subwoofer. Is this a bad idea? Could the subwoofer damage the printer in some way?

    Thanks.

i'm not sure about damaging, but if some heavy or even light bass is playing while you print... things might get blurry.

I'm not positive, but I know the subwoofer with the logitech z 5500 can damage your electronics. Maybe others can as well? In the logitech sub there's some powerful magnet in there so they warn users against putting electronics within two feet of it.

Here's a link to a review of them that shows the warning: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/z5500/index4.php

The worst that can happen is that it vibrates itself off and falls to the floor. Other than that it will be fine.

Any decent sub will be magnetically shielded, and even those that are not usually are not too strong and most electronic devices are fine around magnets. In the case of a printer even more so as its more mechanical than anything.

i would imagine that if you are playing bass heavy songs/movies. the printer will rattle and become quite annoying.

Sub-woofers should be kept on the Floor or either mounted on the top of the Room.

this Evens out the bass and helps it Spread evenly across the room, instead of banging your ear.

NEVER keep them at your level.

I keep them mine under the Table.

but thats because i listen to Trance a lot.

Trance shakes up the s-woofers a lot.

Say that about the Swan M10, which is designed for the sub to be placed on your desk. In most cases though, yes the sub is best on the floor. I wouldn't be worried about the magnetic field of the battery on the sub effecting my other electronics, about the only thing that its going to really effect is a hard drive or a CRT monitor. But who uses CRT's now days anyways?

    L33T gamerz lol.

I have my 10" Klipsch sub under my desk its best there because I can hear it at low volumes very easily and get some shake to the desk. If I put it in the corner it would be better for entertaining the whole room while watching a movie or something but that means I shake the whole house and as a result have to turn it down :/ Just my midrangers (Klipsch quintet III) shake the walls already :(

I have had my xbox ontop of the sub, my video games, and my computer tower used to be next to it with no ill effects.

Um yeah, I used to have my tower with side cover off next to my Z-5500 sub with seemingly no ill effects :p

Because Printer is very mechanical device, I'd rather not put it on top of something that vibrate. But I guess it depends on how loud you use it, and so on.
