I just wanted to know about people's experiences with these Canon printers. My HP Photosmart 7660 just died on me this week, and I'm finding that although I'm an HP fan, Canon is offering a lot more for the money on these two all-in-ones. The big thing that's irking me is how duplex printing is standard on a Canon, but an HP adds it as an $80 USD option  Plus, I'm trying to reduce the clutter on my desk i.e. take out my old scanner.

Most of the reviews out there have put these two out front. But I'm hearing vastly different opinions about print quality of graphics. I'm just wondering if the extra $100 between the 530 and 830 is worth it:

    Specs for the MP530

    Specs for the MP830

This was the HP I was eyeing:

    HP Photosmart C6100 series

I'm mainly doing black & white and colour plain paper prints, as well as the occassional fax and photo. I won't network this printer, but from what I understand I can easily buy a printer router that will do the trick.

    I'd go for either Canons.
The HP has many, many cartridges :
There is a pack for 45 $(Canadian) you can get em all in (in select stores though), but 5 ml of ink? That is kinda weak.

At work, I did a test with a customer on different printers ( MP160, MP530 and MP600- I think...) and the difference in quality wasn't very noticeable. Actually, the MP160 had the bets quality at first sight (and it was the cheapest one!)

But good luck with your choices~! Canon has been winning a lot of terrain pretty much everywhere, so happy choosing!

Thanks for the feedback. After thinking it through, I decided on the MP530.

I have yet to play with it fully, but it seems to be a good workhorse. Let's hope this one lasts me longer than my last HP.
