the only printers I've ever had had ink cartridges that ran out in a couple of weeks and were expensive as hell to replace

    any alternatives?

I understand if photos, on photo paper, takes ink, but just regular black and white documents and color print outs should last months

if you want cheap b&w printing, laser printers are the way to go... though don't place one in the bedroom... might be a little hazardous having particles around in an enclosed space

or have you though about ink refills or CIS(continous ink systems)?

look around on slickdeals.... often there would be a deal from staples or OM or somewhere for an extremely cheap printer(or even free after rebate)... go to ebay or other sites for cheap refills or cheap replacement cartridges... after all, its so cheap
