i know this is not a kind of gear people actually ask for help in choosing one, but i'm simply left with no knowledge of such devices - my nearby pc-stuff shops have incompetent personel who try to sell any possible product, but with no knowledge of what they're selling (eg. when i asked for printserver i was handled by "network pros" who tried to make me buy a router (although their line of thought was extremely good as they simply pointed that by buying one i can simply share whatever the printer across the network plus i can share whatever else is connected to a pc, eg. external harddrives)) neither with any form of understanding what the client wants.

so here's what i need. up to the point i've been sharing my printer in the home network through the desktop pc i used to use far more than the other pcs around the house (for the moment that totals to 3 desktops - over the wires - and 7 notebooks - wifi connected - plus any machine my guests/friends come with). as you might expect, sharing the deskjet 1020 laser printer became quite inconvenient, as the desktop, due to high electricity bills i reached (who cares when you got the funds for a 1200W PSU that's juiced out by the gear used, but then someone's got to pay the bills) and it being for some time my "home-based server-workstation pc" i used for computationally very requiring stuff. so the big bad box is now shut down most of the time... as is therefore the printer connected to it.

unfortunately it becomes more and more apparent that i need to utilize some small-bricked printserver so as to use the printer (unfortunately it is GDI one...), what is more i'd like the printserver to allow bidirectional communication (you know, driver's stuff for the printer, to use it fully). as i do have one more lan-cable lying around (and appropriate wire plug in my home router - linksys wrt160n - free) it would be quite interesting to get one wired printserver. should however there be some wireless options available that are not that pricey (preferably around or below $100) i'd consider them as well. if there is some kind of drawback eg. could work with only up to 5 pcs i can live with that, after all it's not that i print from every machine in the household at the same time...

so? do you have any ideas? any suggestions? any "do-not-buy-this-havoc-wrecking-stuff-unless-you're-out-of-your-mind" remarks? maybe some "you-really-ought-to-get-this-thing!" possibilities? big thx for your counsel.
