I've gone through 4 eneloop batteries already in about 9 months and I finally figured it out. I was using a wall ac micro usb cable cause it recharged faster than laptop usb port but the ac charger (which was made for my phone not the mouse) killed the longevity of the batteries and soon I'd be recharging every 3 days. So yea only recharge off the usb port with included cable or you will kill your battery.

Also I think this mouse deserves more praise. I have a glass top desk and no other mouse will even track on it without a pad. Seems not a single other manufacturer can even figure out how to track on glass.

I use the logitech anywhere mx.

    benefits vs performance mx:

    smaller
    lighter
    cheaper

    disadvantages:
less buttons (missing two thumb buttons)
    no usb charging

    other:
less extreme ergonomic design (still some contouring, but not nearly as much, and comfortable to use left handed though the thumb buttons are obviously on the wrong side then)

the logitech app on my pc notifies me when the battery is low, and i've seen it last over a week from that point to the point it actually dies, so i dont think i'd actually benefit that much from usb charging other than the convenience of not having to open up the mouse.

anyways, your problem appeared to have to do with the amount of power the charger was providing. Wall usb chargers come with different specifications, so you were likely providing too much power, which was damaging the batteries.

I do like the smaller version as well but the comfort of the larger one in my hand I won't give up. Not being able to charge kinda sucks too. The programmable buttons its missing is a bummer too, they can be really nice.

The extra size doesn't matter since I use it as a desktop replacement notebook mouse but if you need small size that will work on ANY surface you can't beat the anywhere mx. I use the razer bluetooth orochi as my portable mouse with my hp. I like how it connects to the laptop without any ports being used and I don't game on the portable laptop so the latency increase of bluetooth doesn't bother me.

hehe, i have both mice :p i bought the performance originally and found that it was too big for my ultraportable setup*

personally, i despise that usb cable because it makes you think that you can use the performance in wired mode for gaming. if i am wrong and my mouse is broken and i need to RTFM...please tell me :D

*it's actually fairly portable if you MUST have the perfect mouse on the road. what I mean is that, i would have wasted money buying expensive, thin, light-weight bags, adapters, and laptops if half of my setup wasn't optimized.

performance mx does not send any data over USB even when plugged in. It's used strictly for charging and still requires the wireless adapter plugged in even when hooked up to usb yes thats true but its not a problem for a desktop replacement m18x user.
